Accordingly, the excellent student exam for 9th grade students this year is organized by the Department of Education and Training at 5 exam locations with specific exam subjects as follows:

1. Candidates taking the math, history and geography exams will take the exams at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, District 1.
2. Candidates taking the IT exam will take the exam at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, District 5.
3. Candidates taking foreign language exams (English, French, Chinese, Japanese) will take the exam at Nguyen Van To Secondary School, District 10.
4. Candidates taking the literature and natural science exams will take the exams at Marie Curie High School, District 3.
5. Candidates taking the technology exam will take the exam at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School, Binh Thanh District.

Two new exams

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, this year's 9th grade excellent student exam has many new points compared to the previous school year. This is the first year students take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, the exam questions will be compiled in the direction of assessing thinking ability and applying learned knowledge to solve practical problems.

This year is also the first year that there are new subjects in the exam: natural sciences, history and geography.

The exam for natural science will have two parts. The compulsory part (accounting for 30% of the score) is related to general knowledge of natural science. In the optional part (accounting for 70% of the score), students can choose one of three content streams: Matter and its transformation, Earth and the sky; Energy and transformation, Earth and the sky; Living things, Earth and the sky.

For history and geography, students can choose one of two subjects: history or geography.

In computer science, candidates will take a programming test on a computer.

Foreign language subjects will have a listening test.

First prize is awarded 10 million VND/student

Regarding the regulations for awarding prizes for the 2025 City-level 9th ​​grade excellent student competition, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that individual prizes (first, second, third) will be awarded for each subject; The percentage of students winning prizes will not exceed 60% of the students taking the competition (of which the first prize will not exceed 5% of the prize winners); The condition for winning a prize is that the candidate's exam must achieve 10/20 points or more.

In addition, according to Resolution 02/2021 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, students who win first prize in the city-level 9th ​​grade excellent student competition will be rewarded 10 million VND/student.
