HCMC: End of additional admission for grade 10 public and private schools to adjust enrollment quotas before August 15

On August 6, public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City announced the list of students admitted to additional public grade 10 classes for the 2024-2025 school year. This is the final round of public grade 10 admissions. If not admitted, candidates can choose other types of study such as continuing education, vocational colleges, private high schools, etc.

At the end of the additional public 10th grade admission round, it was noted that high schools with top admission scores such as Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District), Le Quy Don High School (District 3), Phu Nhuan High School (Phu Nhuan District)... did not have any students admitted for additional admission.

The reason given by school representatives is that the admission benchmark in the first round of admission was already high, while the additional admission condition is that students do not pass all 3 public grade 10 admission wishes and have an exam score equal to the benchmark score of the 3rd choice (0.25-0.5 points higher than the 1st and 2nd choices).

This is an impossible request because if a candidate has an exam score equal to the standard score of the 3rd choice of the top schools, he/she will have enough points to be admitted to the school in the 2nd and 3rd choices, so there cannot be a case of not being admitted to all 3 choices of public grade 10.

Meanwhile, many schools with admission scores in the middle and bottom groups, although registering for additional admission quotas, received very few applications, such as Linh Trung High School (Thu Duc City), Go Vap High School (Go Vap District), Can Thanh High School (Can Gio District)...

In particular, Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8) announced that the additional admission score is from 13.25 points or higher. Accordingly, all students who have submitted additional admission applications are eligible for admission.

If students do not pass the additional public 10th grade entrance exam, they can apply for admission to non-public high schools that are permitted by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to enroll in the 2024-2025 school year.

Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, 85 non-public high schools will be assigned enrollment targets for grade 10 with nearly 29,000 students.

Among them, some schools with the highest enrollment quota for grade 10 are Tran Cao Van Secondary and High School (2,408 quotas), Ngo Thoi Nhiem Secondary and High School (1,260 quotas)...

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requires schools not to enroll more students than the approved quota.

In case the school needs to adjust the enrollment quota for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year, it must review the conditions of facilities, equipment, and personnel, ensure sufficient conditions to receive more students, and send an official dispatch with supporting documents to the electronic office system of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training before August 15.
