On the morning of August 1, in Ho Chi Minh City, photographer Tran The Phong officially launched the photo book "Vietnamese Traditional Crafts" (English title: Vietnam's Traditional Crafts). This is the 13th photo book and the 19th solo exhibition in the photographer's photography career. The exhibition displays 22 photo collections with more than 100 photos, selected from 45 photo collections included in the book.

Sharing about the photo book "Traditional Vietnamese Crafts", the author said that this is the 19th time the book has been launched with 100 books and only 100 copies are printed, and this is the book that he has taken the most care of.

Besides introducing the beauty of traditional crafts to domestic readers, he also wants to join hands to promote Vietnamese culture and heritage to international friends.

To get real, clear photos of traditional craft villages in Vietnam, Tran The Phong spent 10 years traveling from North to South to visit famous craft villages such as Bat Trang pottery village, Bau Truc pottery village, Dong Ho paintings, An Giang silk weaving, Cao Bang paper making..., asking and talking with artisans and workers, recording their working moments.

Mr. Hai Son highly appreciated the idea and quality of the book, from the photo paper and lining paper, which The Phong chose fine art paper from Italy. The book cover is paper from the Netherlands, the book box cover is cardboard from Finland.

In particular, on the paper there is a handwritten part certifying that this is a limited edition book and the lacquer box is crafted by the excellent artisan Le Ba Linh. “All of these materials are environmentally friendly,” said Mr. Hai.

It is known that in each book, photographer Tran The Phong attached a piece of paper that he bought from a traditional paper-making village in Cao Bang. On the paper, there is a handwritten part certifying that this is a limited edition book, priced at 9,999,999 VND/book.

Photographer Tran The Phong was born in 1969 and grew up in Ho Chi Minh City. He came from a street background and is a vegetarian.

He is the author of famous photo books such as: Burden; Childhood Roads; Overcoming Darkness; Light of Life; 45 Days in Switzerland; Making a Living; Portrait; Saigon Rhythm; Saigon Covid-19; Laughter; Saigon Covid-19 (2021); Shadow.

He has received more than 200 awards for art photography and journalism at home and abroad, including: 16 national and city press photography awards; 12 national excellence awards from the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, Grand Prix (Japan); 3 Trierenberg Super Circuit Gold Medals (Austria) and 5 Asahi Shimbun medals (Japan).
