Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed the Tanzanian Foreign Minister's visit to Vietnam, which took place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1965-2025) and during the proud days when the Vietnamese people celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son respectfully thanked Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo for accepting the invitation to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, demonstrating Tanzania's solidarity and valuable support for Vietnam's struggle for national independence.
Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo expressed his joy at visiting Vietnam for the first time during the historic April days and witnessing the heroic atmosphere of the Vietnamese people.
Expressing gratitude for the warm and sincere welcome that the Vietnamese side gave to the delegation and congratulating the outstanding achievements that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have achieved after 50 years of national reunification, especially in economic development, Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo assessed that the Vietnam-Tanzania relationship is a historical relationship with a solid political foundation, built and developed by outstanding leaders of the two countries.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral cooperation in recent times, with the highlight being the success of Halotel, an investment project of Viettel Group in Tanzania. Tanzania has emerged as Vietnam's leading supplier of raw cashew nuts in Africa, with import turnover in the first 3 months of 2025 reaching over 240 million USD, exceeding the figure for the whole year of 2024.
Congratulating Tanzania on its outstanding development achievements in recent times, and affirming Vietnam's policy of considering Tanzania a priority partner in Africa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two countries increase delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones, through Party, State, National Assembly channels and people-to-people exchanges, and suggested that Tanzania consider opening an embassy in Vietnam soon to promote and develop the foundation of political trust, opening a new stage in the cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Regarding economic and trade relations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son suggested that both sides diversify the exchanged goods to increase trade turnover between the two countries. On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister asked the Tanzanian Government to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for Viettel Group and Vietnamese enterprises to invest, operate stably and participate in digital transformation projects, e-government, and online public services in Tanzania. To create a favorable legal corridor for enterprises, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister suggested that the two countries soon complete negotiations on investment protection and double taxation avoidance agreements.
The Tanzanian Foreign Minister said that Tanzania has high expectations and wishes to continue expanding and diversifying cooperation areas with Vietnam, focusing on potential areas where Tanzania can learn from development experience and attract investment such as industrialization, telecommunications, digital transformation, agricultural processing, post-harvest technology, mining, etc.
The two sides had in-depth discussions on the situation in each country and the region, and agreed on specific directions and measures to further strengthen and promote the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Tanzania. |
Emphasizing that with its strategic location in East Africa, Tanzania is ready to be a bridge for Vietnam to access large markets such as the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and hoping that Vietnamese enterprises will actively explore cooperation and investment opportunities in Tanzania, the Minister also suggested that Vietnam study and increase the import of goods that Tanzania has strengths in and Vietnam has demand for, such as cotton, minerals, etc.
The two sides agreed to increase exchanges and contacts between ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises to promote cooperation in new potential areas such as defense, security, construction, human resource training, leadership, management, sharing of experiences in participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations, etc., and agreed to soon agree on the time to hold the 2nd Meeting of the Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation to review cooperation, promote negotiations, sign economic documents, and actively prepare for high-level delegation exchanges in the coming time.
The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially within the framework of the United Nations, regional organizations such as the African Union (AU), ASEAN, and the East African Community (EAC); and to increase exchanges and coordination of positions on global issues for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and cooperation in the two regions. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son asked Tanzania to support the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on resolving disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
