Musician, Meritorious Artist Dinh Trung Can - General Director of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC) - shared with VietNamNet reporter that the activity of collecting fees for using music copyright creates a positive impact on the lives of many musicians.
One typical case is musician, Meritorious Artist Xuan Ba. Many years ago, he discovered that his song Tinh Quan Dan was used in the multi-episode documentary Vietnam War, so he reported it to VCPMC.
Through a bilateral authorization agreement with BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc. - a performing rights organization in the US), VCPMC contacted the producer of the above film.

"The film producer in the US could not find the author, and on the other hand, subjectively thought that a song created during the resistance war against France in Vietnam might have expired copyright protection. When we contacted them, they showed goodwill and cooperation," said Mr. Can.
Based on the synthesis of documents on the duration of films using the song Tinh Quan Dan , the number of people watching the film on online platforms... plus the performance of this song at a number of events, as of the third quarter of 2024, musician Xuan Ba received nearly 50,000 USD (more than 1 billion VND).
In addition, another American film that used this work also paid full royalties to the author.
"I am very happy because musician Xuan Ba - like many artists who came out of the resistance war - was poor. He could not bear to throw away his guitar with holes in it. How happy he must be to receive more than 1 billion. And this amount of money will not stop because the film will continue to be shown regularly every year at a number of events in different countries," said the General Director of VCPMC.
