First graders return to school as early as August 19

Accordingly, preschools will not return to school, but will start on September 5, 2024. Students of all levels will return to school on August 26, 2024, except for first graders who will return to school one week earlier, on August 19, 2024.

Schools will simultaneously start the new school year on September 5, 2024, ensuring 18 weeks of actual study in semester 1 and 17 weeks of actual study in semester 2. The end date of the school year for students is before May 31, 2025.

In particular, primary and secondary schools are required to complete the primary school program and graduate from secondary school before June 30, 2025. Localities are required to complete enrollment for grades 1, 6 and 10 for the 2025-2026 school year before July 31, 2025.

For the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a break from January 25, 2025 (December 26 of the lunar calendar) to February 2, 2025 (January 5 of the lunar calendar).

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a framework for the 2025-2026 school year. The new point of this year's plan is the announcement of the 2025 high school graduation exam schedule on June 26 and 27.

Announcing the high school graduation exam schedule before the start of the new school year is to help localities proactively plan the school year, especially the plan for admission to grade 10 of high school, so that it does not overlap with the high school graduation exam time. In addition, it helps schools, teachers and students be more proactive in organizing teaching plans.
