To bring OCOP products far and wide

On the day of attending the 50th anniversary of the liberation of my homeland in Tuy Phong district, I had the opportunity to visit the booths displaying local OCOP products, and discovered that there were many new products introduced here but had not been widely promoted and were not known to many people in the province.

Many delegates visiting the booths had the same question: “Where can I order on a normal day?”. Most booth owners would send business cards, provide phone numbers and promise to deliver to customers’ homes if needed, but there was no centralized point of sale for local OCOP products.

Last time, my friend had the opportunity to travel through Lien Huong town, and heard people introduce that this place has many attractive OCOP products such as grapes, apples, melons, rice, cinnamon sausages, etc., so he wanted to ask me where to buy them as gifts. Honestly, I don't know where there is a concentrated point of sale for tourists to stop by to buy. I called a few friends and found out that most of the OCOP product owners sell at home, if customers from far away want to buy, they will send their vehicles if it is convenient or deliver by post.

OCOP is a program of one product per commune (ward). The focus of the program is to develop the form of production and business organization of traditional products with advantages in rural areas according to the value chain, implemented by private and collective economic sectors. This is a key solution to increase the value of agricultural economy, contributing to the implementation of the national target program on new rural construction. And more importantly, the value accumulated in each OCOP product becomes a source of pride in the tradition, the depth of the cultural history of the land and honors the intelligence, hands and brains of farmers.

Fresh and dried apples of Phong Phu Agricultural Service Cooperative meet 3-star standards.

Up to now, the whole province has more than 128 products meeting OCOP standards (including 94 3-star products, 32 4-star products, 2 potential 5-star products) and 60 typical rural industrial products. Notable among them are products processed from aquatic products (traditional fish sauce, seafood specialties), dragon fruit (dried - chewy, jam, wine - soft drinks...) or products from bird's nest and a variety of other agricultural products...

Many OCOP products contribute to enhancing the value of local regional specialties.

In recent times, Binh Thuan has actively managed, built brands, promoted trade, and advertised OCOP products. Provincial and district levels regularly and continuously introduce OCOP products and traditional craft villages through OCOP fairs, agricultural fairs, and trade fairs inside and outside the province. In addition, two display and sales points for Binh Thuan OCOP products were opened at 341 Vo Van Kiet Street, Phu Thuy Ward and 155 Nguyen Thong Street, Phu Hai Ward - Phan Thiet City. In addition, some Binh Thuan OCOP products are also displayed and sold at Co.op Mart Phan Thiet, La Gi and Phan Ri Cua supermarkets. At the same time, OCOP product owners are also active in selling online, consigning products, participating in trade events - connecting supply and demand...

It is undeniable that many OCOP products have played the role of "cultural ambassadors", introducing the characteristics of customs, living habits, and traditions of local people. Thanks to OCOP, rural people have jobs, stable income, improved knowledge, and a far-reaching reputation, contributing to raising the value of local regional specialties. Creating more opportunities for OCOP products to access the domestic market and aim for export in the coming time. Many farmers and individual households have become typical examples of overcoming difficulties to get rich thanks to agricultural commodity production.

However, it must be recognized that there are still bottlenecks in accessing OCOP products. In fact, in the province, a number of OCOP product display and sales points have been established, but very few people know about them and the products are not as diverse and rich as customers expect. Being a province that develops tourism, tourists also want to visit a locality to enjoy the specialties of that region, to see with their own eyes and touch the products made by local farmers to buy as gifts.

Therefore, at tourist attractions, there should be concentrated shopping areas specializing in selling specialties, goods, and OCOP products typical of that region. That way, when visitors from afar come to Binh Thuan and want to buy OCOP products, they will know where to go.
