In an Instagram post, Vice President Kamala Harris said one of the things that caught her eye about running mate Tim Walz was his deep belief in fighting for middle-class families.

The Democratic presidential candidate reviewed Walz's career journey with pride, highlighting milestones such as his work with Republicans to pass infrastructure investments and tax cuts for working families.

In Minnesota, he pushed through legislation providing paid family leave and health care, and passed a bill requiring comprehensive background checks for gun buyers.

Ms. Harris believes that together with Mr. Walz, we will build a great partnership and team to win the upcoming election.

For his part, Mr. Tim Walz said that being chosen by Ms. Harris as his running mate was "the greatest honor of his life".

The remaining candidate on the list of candidates that Ms. Harris had previously considered, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, affirmed that he would support her choice, uniting the people of the state to support the Democratic candidate duo to defeat the Republican duo.

After Ms. Harris's choice, USNews reported that US President Joe Biden expressed his welcome, stating: "Ms. Kamala Harris made a great decision to choose Governor Tim Walz as her running mate... He is a strong, principled and effective leader."

The current US President affirmed that the Harris-Walz ticket will be "a strong voice for America's great working people and middle class. They will be the strongest defenders of individual freedoms and democracy and ensure that America continues to lead the world and play the role of indispensable nation".

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party's 2016 presidential candidate, expressed her joy at seeing Mr. Tim Walz selected to join the party's running mate.

Based on efforts to help provide free meals for children to implement paid family leave in Minnesota, Mrs. Clinton believes Mr. Walz will be a great partner to help America have its first female president in history.

Overall, Ms. Harris's pick received support from Democratic lawmakers, some labor unions and climate advocacy organizations.

The US Vice President will appear with his running mate at an event in Philadelphia on the evening of August 6 (local time). Ms. Harris's campaign hopes that the long career of former National Guardsman Walz will attract voters in rural areas.

The Harris-Walz duo will face off against the Donald Trump-JD Vance duo, also a military veteran from the Midwest, in the election on November 5.
