“ ABC News will host a debate between qualified presidential candidates on September 10 on ABC television. Vice President Harris and former President Trump have both confirmed their participation in the debate,” ABC said in a statement.

Speaking at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Mr Trump said he was “very much looking forward” to the debate with the vice president and had agreed to participate in upcoming debates on Fox News, ABC and NBC .

“I think debates are very important, and we have agreed with Fox News to have a debate on September 4th. We have also agreed with NBC , and ABC on September 25th,” the former president said.

A senior Trump adviser and a source from ABC News both said the specific dates Trump has agreed to with the networks are: September 4 with Fox News , September 10 with ABC and September 25 with NBC .

Mr Trump said “small details” were still being worked out, including audience and venue issues.

“The other side has to agree to the terms. They may or may not. I don’t know if they will. (Harris) has never done an interview. She can’t do an interview. I look forward to these debates because we need to get things straight,” he added.

Harris confirmed her attendance and said she was “very open” to another debate. “I’m so happy that he finally agreed to participate in the debate on September 10. I’m looking forward to it and I hope he shows up,” Harris told reporters before boarding a plane after an event with the United Auto Workers union.

Asked if she would be willing to participate in the other debates that Mr. Trump has mentioned, Ms. Harris said: “I am willing to discuss an additional debate after September 10.”

The ABC News debate was initially agreed to by both former President Trump and current President Joe Biden before Biden withdrew from the race. Earlier this week, Trump said he would not debate Harris if she did not agree to participate in the Fox News debate on September 4.

Details about location, rules and moderators will be decided as debate date approaches.
