As a key bank in the Vietnamese banking system and a leading bank in foreign capital trust activities, BIDV is always a pioneer in implementing the policies and directions of the Government and the State Bank in this field. Recognizing the importance of supporting businesses to invest in the energy sector, especially renewable energy, energy saving, environmental protection, climate change response and green growth,... BIDV always pays attention and resources to this field and has become a pioneer commercial bank in Vietnam in green credit, bringing positive values to the market as well as international investors.

Following the success of the Climate Change Mitigation Credit Line (SUNREF Green Credit Line of USD 100 million) signed and disbursed in 2021, AFD and BIDV continue to strengthen the close and effective cooperation between the two parties through the signing of a Climate Credit Line worth EUR 50 million. This line provides BIDV's customers with the opportunity to access preferential foreign funding to invest in green projects. After the first line focused on financing climate change mitigation projects, this line aims to finance climate change adaptation projects, marking a new strong step forward in the development of green finance in Vietnam. The EUR 50 million climate credit line is an affirmation of the commitment of both parties in the process of promoting investment and financing green projects as agreed in the Comprehensive Cooperation Memorandum signed on May 28, 2024 between BIDV and AFD. In addition, AFD also provides BIDV with technical assistance worth EUR 200,000 to advise and support the bank in building a suitable loan portfolio, establishing criteria policies for assessing climate risks of funded projects, developing and improving the system for assessing and managing environmental and social risks.

According to BIDV's business strategy for the period 2021 - 2025 with a vision to 2030, BIDV identifies "sustainable development" as a consistent goal in banking operations. In recent times, BIDV has mobilized many green capital sources from foreign donors to serve and re-lend to customers; in which, major projects of AFD implemented by BIDV have brought positive effects to the social environment such as the Urban Infrastructure Improvement Project to minimize the impact of climate change for the coastal provinces of North Central Vietnam, renewable energy projects using SUNREF capital. This 50 million EUR climate credit line will continue to provide BIDV with long-term capital to finance green growth for sustainable development goals, towards the goal of becoming a Net zero bank by 2045 .

The French Development Agency (AFD) is a state agency and public financial institution that finances, supports and promotes the transition towards a fairer and more sustainable world. With more than 4,000 projects implemented in 115 countries, AFD is constantly working to promote the fields of health, education and gender equality, while protecting common resources - peace, education, health, biodiversity and sustainable climate. AFD has been operating in Vietnam since 1994 and has funded more than 90 projects, with a total funding value of nearly 2.6 billion EUR in the fields of: infrastructure, transport, energy, agriculture, ...
