Quang Nam: Establishment of Ngoc Linh Mountain Ginseng Association and Tra My Cinnamon Association

Ngoc Linh Mountain Ginseng and Tra My Cinnamon Association was established in 2018 with 205 members, mainly cinnamon and Ngoc Linh Ginseng growers. In the past, the Association has registered to protect the ownership of 50 Tra My cinnamon products and 100 Ngoc Linh Ginseng products.

However, through practical activities, some limitations still exist due to the specificity of Ngoc Linh Ginseng. Faced with the requirement to develop these two types of plants with high economic value, it is necessary to have a specialized association to enhance the brand and protect the product.

After its establishment, Ngoc Linh Ginseng Association was headquartered in Tam Ky City and Tra My Cinnamon Association was headquartered in Bac Tra My District.

Ngoc Linh Ginseng Association will take the role of recommending the Central Government to have its own mechanism and resources to serve the research and development of Ngoc Linh Ginseng; consulting with functional agencies on ginseng security, combating fake ginseng, controlling ginseng quality; researching to expand the geographical indication area of ​​Ngoc Linh to control the origin and quality.

Tra My Cinnamon Association will continue to promote its role as an association representing cinnamon growers in Quang Nam province.

Speaking at the Congress, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu said that the province is currently promoting a project to establish a national medicinal plant industry center, in which Ngoc Linh Ginseng and Tra My Cinnamon are very famous, which will contribute to bringing the Quang Nam medicinal plant industry to greater heights and further.

“I hope that after being established, the Ngoc Linh Ginseng Association and the Tra My Cinnamon Association will play a role in connecting, sponsoring products, protecting members and ginseng and cinnamon growers. At the same time, they will do a good job of geographical indications and expanding domestic and international cooperation.”

Currently, Quang Nam province has planned the conservation and development area of ​​Ngoc Linh Ginseng which has been determined to be 15,567 hectares (of which from an altitude of 2,000m and above is 2,238 hectares, from an altitude of 1,200 - 2,000m is 13,329 hectares). In addition, the province is researching the transplanting of Ngoc Linh Ginseng in some other localities with similar conditions to expand and develop the growing area of ​​Ngoc Linh Ginseng.

The total area of ​​forest environment for lease for growing Ngoc Linh Ginseng is 1,428.96 hectares, of which households and individuals own 428.96 hectares; organizations and enterprises own 1,000 hectares. The area for growing Ngoc Linh Ginseng in Quang Nam province is 1,243.00 hectares, mainly concentrated in Nam Tra My district.
