Billionaire Musk started the event at 8:42 p.m. on August 12 (local time), about 40 minutes later than expected. Mr. Musk said that his social network X was attacked by DDOS, causing the live conversation with Mr. Trump to be delayed by nearly an hour. DDOS, also known as a denial of service attack, is a common form of cyber attack in which hackers will send a large number of access requests with the aim of paralyzing the system. According to the counter on X, there were 16 million views of the 2-hour conversation between billionaire Musk and former President Trump. During this conversation, Mr. Musk spent most of the first time praising Mr. Trump's courage in the recent assassination attempt. For his part, Mr. Trump said he planned to return to Butler, where the assassination attempt took place, in October.

The discussion is expected to give Trump a chance to refocus his campaign at a time when it faces new headwinds. Trump returned to Twitter, formerly known as Twitter, with a series of posts on August 12. The social network has been used as a major communication tool during his previous campaigns and his four-year presidency. Trump's Twitter account was suspended after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, as executives were concerned that Trump might incite violence. After being kicked off Twitter, Trump launched his own social network, Truth Social, in February 2022, and has been posting regularly on the platform.
