(Dan Tri) - In the men's 100m freestyle event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle won the gold medal and broke the world record he set in February this year.
In February, Pan Zhanle made a splash when he won four gold medals at the World Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar. He set a world record in the men's 100m freestyle with a time of 46.80 seconds.

However, the 19-year-old swimmer broke his own record in the men's 100m freestyle event at the Paris 2024 Olympics yesterday (July 31) with a time of 46.40 seconds, 0.40 seconds better than the old record. Pan Zhanle even left his two opponents behind him by more than 1 second, Kyle Chalmers of Australia (47.48 seconds, silver medal) and David Popovich of Romania (47.49 seconds, bronze medal). In the final, Pan Zhanle's reaction time of 0.62 seconds at the start was the fastest of the match. A good start is half the success, Pan Zhanle (who had a strong acceleration in the last 50m) quickly created an advantage and always led his opponents until the end of the competition. Pan Zhanle finally won the first gold medal for the Chinese team in swimming at the Paris Olympics, thereby helping the country of a billion people rise to the top of the medal table after the 5th day of competition. Pan Zhanle's victory also means that the US swimming team continues to suffer defeat at this year's Olympics. Although there are two athletes participating in the medal round, Jack Alexy and Chris Guiliano, these two swimmers are big disappointments. They are the ones who finished last with times of 47.96 seconds and 47.98 seconds respectively.
