The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has recently sent a document to the heads of education and training departments in Thu Duc City and other districts and counties; and the principals of primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, and multi-level schools in Ho Chi Minh City, regarding the transfer and admission of students from the American International School (AISVN) for the 2024-2025 school year.

Request that secondary schools accept students from AISVN International School.

The Department requests that the heads of the Education and Training Departments of Thu Duc City and the districts, and the principals of secondary schools, base their actions on the guidance in document No. 4011 of the Department regarding the transfer and admission of students from AISVN International School to continue admitting students from this school, ensuring that students are facilitated in their admission and enrollment and that their learning process is not interrupted in the 2024-2025 school year.

Specifically, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested the chairman of the school board and the principal of AISVN International School to strictly comply with Decision No. 2042 dated June 28th of the Department regarding the suspension of the school's operations.

Now, school leaders must assign personnel and organize the implementation of school transfer procedures; create the most favorable conditions for parents when they come to contact the school and provide all required documents when parents complete the school transfer procedures.

"The school principal assigns staff to check the data daily and promptly inform parents to guide them in implementing these instructions correctly," the document states.

The department's leadership also directed that upon receiving this document, the relevant units should organize its implementation and inform the parents of the students.

During the implementation process, if any difficulties arise in admitting students, unit leaders should contact the relevant departments of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for guidance.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued a decision to suspend the educational activities of AISVN International School for a period of 12 months, starting from July 1st.

AISVN International School has repeatedly announced that it will reopen in August 2024.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of August 2024, AISVN International School has repeatedly sent emails regarding the preparations for the new academic year 2024-2025.

The school's announcement stated: "Currently, the school is actively carrying out the necessary preparations to commence the 2024-2025 school year in August 2024."

Most recently, on July 26th, 29th, and 31st, representatives from various departments met to report to the school board on preparations for the new school year.

Work is underway to ensure readiness for the new school year: submitting documents to relevant authorities; recruiting teachers and staff as requested by departments; cleaning, repairing, and maintaining facilities.

"We have now completed the classroom assignments based on the registration links for the student start dates submitted on August 3-8 and are in the process of arranging the necessary teachers, staff, and equipment to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year."

In a notice sent to parents on August 9th, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em - chair of the board of AISVN International School - stated: "We are currently working with relevant authorities on reopening the school."

Next week, the school will process payroll for current staff and finalize contracts with new employees.

The school will begin the new school year in August and will notify you three days before the start date.

However, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, stated that the appointment of Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu to the school board of AISVN International School by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em is not yet official.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has clarified that in order to appoint a chairman of the school board, the school must submit the application to the department for review and approval.

Ms. Ut Em's announcement of appointing the chairperson of the school board without prior recognition from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is unacceptable.

"I affirm that, at this time, AISVN International School is not yet eligible to resume operations. For the school to reopen, it must address all the reasons that led to its suspension, especially regarding financial resources."

Therefore, parents need to be very vigilant and consider transferring their children to other schools so that they have time to get used to the new learning environment," Mr. Hieu said.

Information about Dr. Thomas Annis - the principal of AISVN - has now been removed from the school's website.
