On the morning of August 8, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony to honor and reward excellent students, excellent teachers and teachers who trained excellent student teams for the 2023-2024 school year. Attending the ceremony were comrades Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and representatives of departments, branches, sectors and schools in the city.

Reporting at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Bao Quoc said that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has closely and effectively coordinated with Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments, branches, and organizations in the city in advising on mechanisms and policies for preferential treatment of teachers and students with excellent achievements in order to maintain and improve the quality of education, promote the training of excellent students and improve the quality of human resources of the city.

At the same time, the education sector has increased investment in facilities and teaching equipment, promoted the role of the high-quality key school system, and created favorable conditions for teachers and students to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

At the national excellent student selection exam for the 2023-2024 school year organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City had 110/167 participating students winning prizes, including 4 first prizes, 19 second prizes, 39 third prizes and 48 consolation prizes.

At the National Science and Technology Competition, Ho Chi Minh City had 4 projects participating and all won prizes, including 1 project winning first prize, 1 project winning third prize and 2 projects winning fourth prize.

In particular, the first prize winning project of 2 students from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted was sent to the International Science and Technology Competition in the US and won the second prize and a secondary prize awarded by the American Computer Association.

In the city-level cultural subject selection exam alone, last school year, 1,957 high school students won prizes out of a total of 4,735 participating students; 1,981 middle school students won prizes out of a total of 3,598 participating students.

Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Bao Quoc said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the education sector will continue to innovate the content and methods of organizing excellent student exams in the direction of early detection of talented students to proactively select, review, foster, and train teams of excellent students.

Management staff and teachers at schools regularly review, promptly update and supplement new content suitable to subject characteristics and requirements of the 2018 General Education Program; focus on innovating teaching methods and techniques.

Recognizing and appreciating the achievements of the education and training sector in the past school year, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le said that the City Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City always create favorable conditions for the development of the education sector, including paying attention to the team of teachers and students who achieved high results in the city's, national and international excellent student competitions.

"In recent times, the education sector has actively innovated and constantly created creativity in the work of nurturing students with the capacity and qualities to develop their talents, aiming to improve the quality of the city's human resources. The proud results were achieved thanks to the efforts of the students themselves, the dedicated guidance of teachers; the care, attention, encouragement and motivation of their families, the support of schools and social organizations. In addition, the above results have shown the effectiveness of the determination of the entire political system, focusing on the direction and attention of city leaders at all levels towards the education sector," emphasized Ms. Nguyen Thi Le.

The Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City hopes that in addition to making efforts to study and learn cultural and technical subjects, students need to enhance their life skills, cultivate and practice ethics to gradually improve themselves, and nurture their ambitions and aspirations to contribute to their homeland and country.

As for teachers who are good teachers, comrade Nguyen Thi Le asked them to continue to strive, share experiences with colleagues, and inspire generations of teachers to love their profession more and dedicate themselves to the cause of education.
