The "National Circus Talent Competition 2024" takes place from August 9 to 13 in Hanoi, chaired by the Department of Performing Arts, in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Vietnam Circus Federation and related agencies and units.

Many great performances

The competition has the participation of nearly 100 artists and actors from 4 units: Phuong Nam Art Theater, Vietnam Circus and Variety Arts College, Hanoi Circus and Variety Arts Theater, Vietnam Circus Federation, with 20 performances.

As the only unit from Ho Chi Minh City participating in the competition, Phuong Nam Arts Theater introduced 4 outstanding performances: "Collective Juggling" by: Hong Nhung, Quang The, Ba Duc, My Hanh, Ba Tung, Minh Cuong; "Swan Dance - Couple Swing" by: Tran Thu, Thu Trang; "4-Male Image" by: Trinh Thang, Tan Thanh, Kien Quang, Hien Phuoc and "Standing Hand on Carpet" performed by young actress Truc Vi. These performances received enthusiastic cheers from a large audience, friends and colleagues.

Meritorious Artist - Director Le Dien, Director of Phuong Nam Art Theater, said: "Phuong Nam Art Theater has invested thoroughly in 4 competition acts, with most of the young actors having undergone elaborate training participating. This effort has contributed to the overall success of the Vietnamese circus industry and affirmed the position of Ho Chi Minh City circus art."

Within the framework of the "National Circus Talent 2024" competition, a large audience enthusiastically cheered for the "Street Circus" parades with outstanding performances by professional artists. On Tran Nhan Tong walking street and around Thien Quang lake, audiences and tourists enthusiastically welcomed circus performers from all over the country.

Artist Hien Phuoc (Phuong Nam Art Theater) said that the special thing about the competition is that it has produced reports to show the audience the process of assembling props, practicing, and preparing each performance. Through that, the audience can better understand the hard work and "cooking" stage of young talents when bringing the most quintessential spiritual food to compete.

Towards a new dimension for the circus industry

Insiders believe that this year's competition had many entries that demonstrated the adventurous elements and bravery of the actors, which helped to win over the audience. To achieve that adventurousness, the artists must have sufficient qualifications and high class. That is the crystallization of continuous hard work, creating absolute precision when performing.

"In addition to increasing the entertainment factor and the support of technology, Vietnamese circus also needs to elevate its performances to replace the traditional performance method. The style of performing single acts is over, but must have ideological themes, stories that attract viewers, and convey humane messages" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai emphasized.

According to experts, the Vietnamese circus industry has shown encouraging signs that not only paying attention to techniques, artistic elements have recently received more attention. Many units have included themes in their performances to enhance the artistic value of their performances. The good news is that many performances have exploited traditional cultural features very well, from costumes, music to staging ideas.
