Continuing to direct the overcoming of natural disaster consequences in Dien Bien, on the morning of August 5, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang had a working session with the People's Committee of Dien Bien province. The Deputy Prime Minister requested that Dien Bien province promote its experience in overcoming incidents according to the spirit of 4 on-site, proactively having plans to move people out of dangerous areas. Appreciating the efforts of Dien Bien province in directing the overcoming of flash flood consequences in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged the contributions and active support of officers and soldiers of the armed forces; members of the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue at all levels have coordinated effectively, promptly and urgently.

Highly agreeing with Dien Bien's recommendations and proposals on allocating funds to implement resettlement and stabilization of residents in Muong Pon commune, Bien Bien district, the Deputy Prime Minister said that on-site resettlement is the most convenient but needs to be comprehensively assessed to suit the reality, customs and practices of the people and ensure adaptation to more extreme weather patterns. At the working session with Dien Bien province, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang informed that the Prime Minister has directed urgent support of 10 billion VND to Dien Bien to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, so Dien Bien needs to use the support funds urgently, promptly and effectively.

Earlier, on the afternoon of August 4, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang inspected the site of the flash flood in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district. At the scene, the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the local government and departments in helping people move their houses and assets; supporting the search for missing people and families of those who died due to the flash flood. Since the beginning of the year, Dien Bien province has been affected by 26 natural disasters; causing 9 deaths; 4 missing people; 12 injured people; 1,365 houses damaged; more than 1,719 hectares of agricultural land damaged; 351 buffaloes, cows and 25.33 hectares of aquatic products swept away. In addition, floods have caused damage to many infrastructure works in terms of transportation; irrigation; electricity; communications; health; education. The total estimated damage in the province from the beginning of the year to August 2 is about 256.5 billion VND (the heavy rain, flash floods and landslides from July 23 to August 2 alone caused about 211.5 billion VND).
