A museum dedicated to wax coconuts, costing over 13 billion VND, is about to open.

The Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Museum has a total investment of over 13 billion VND, contributing to honoring the original wax coconut tree grown in the Cau Ke area.

On the afternoon of August 12th, the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province held a press conference to provide information about the Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Festival and the Vu Lan Festival Week in Cau Ke district in 2024.

According to Mr. Duong Hoang Sum, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province, at the event, the locality will launch the Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Museum in Thanh Phu commune, Cau Ke district, which is the first private museum in Tra Vinh province.

The Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Museum was built on an area of ​​235 square meters with a total investment of over 13 billion VND. This is a unique cultural destination that contributes to honoring the original wax coconut tree grown in the Cau Ke region.

Here, there are exhibition spaces recreating the history and life of the Kinh, Khmer, and Hoa ethnic groups in the province, displaying a collection of artifacts related to the wax coconut tree, and stories of the lives of people living under the coconut trees.

The museum's establishment contributes to enriching the cultural and tourism products of Cau Ke district in particular and Tra Vinh province in general, helping local people and tourists from near and far to learn about the history of the wax coconut tree and the culture of the ethnic communities in Tra Vinh province, while also serving as a cultural exchange point between researchers and collectors from both within and outside the country.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tra Vinh province, the Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Coconut Festival and the Vu Lan Festival Week in Cau Ke district in 2024 is a special event, being held for the first time in Tra Vinh province.

The event aims to honor and promote the brand and values ​​of waxy coconut, affirming the efforts and determination to bring processed products from waxy coconut to world markets, creating conditions for trade, connecting supply and demand, and attracting investment in agricultural processing and tourism, with the desire to introduce and promote the potential, advantages, and investment attraction policies of the province to domestic and foreign investors.

At the same time, we will continue to preserve, maintain, and promote the Vu Lan Festival, a belief of the Chinese community in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh province, which has been included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The event took place from August 25-31 in Cau Ke district, with 12 main activities, including highlights such as: the opening ceremony of the Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Wax Coconut Festival, a seminar on wax coconut trees, an exhibition of delicious specialty fruit products, a competition to prepare 100 delicious dishes from wax coconuts, and a discussion forum on "Cau Ke Tourism - Potential along the Hau River".

The opening ceremony of the Vu Lan Festival Week included the announcement of the decision by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognizing the Vu Lan Festival of Cau Ke District as a national intangible cultural heritage. In addition, there was a trade fair, a food court, a lion dance festival, and various sports and folk games.
