These are localities located along the Son River, where grass carp farming has been ingrained in people's lifestyle for many generations.

On the riverbank, under makeshift shelters, farmers brought carefully cared for grass carp. Each fish was the result of months of nurturing in the clean water environment typical of the Son River. A five-member jury, including representatives from the agriculture, veterinary, tourism and Farmers’ Association sectors, scored the entries based on weight, shape, health, balance and natural beauty.

The first prize went to Xuan Tien’s team with a grass carp weighing 11.2 kg. The fish’s long, slender body, natural silver color, and smooth fins and tail impressed not only the judges but also the audience. This was not only a competition on breeding techniques, but also an opportunity to honor the connection between people and the river, between labor and beauty.

Mr. Tran Van Vinh, Head of the Tram Me Farmers' Association, said: "We are proud that grass carp farming not only brings economic value but also becomes a unique cultural beauty of Phong Nha. Through today's contest, the beauty of Son River grass carp is truly honored like real beauty queens."

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Vice Chairman of Phong Nha Town Farmers’ Association emphasized: “The movement of raising grass carp on the Son River has been contributing to increasing income and developing the economy for local people. Through this competition, we hope to continue to replicate effective and sustainable fish farming models.”

According to the Organizing Committee, the competition is not only an opportunity for fish farmers to demonstrate their skills and experience, but also aims to build the Phong Nha grass carp brand as a typical local product. In the future, the combination of economic development, preserving traditions and promoting tourism is expected to continue to be promoted in the land where people and nature create value together.

The competition ended with an awards ceremony, but its echoes still lingered along the Son River. Grass carp were not only judged by their weight or shape, but also by the story of quiet, persistent labor and the pride of the people who had attached their lives to the Son River.
