Tam Thanh commune in Tam Ky district, Quang Nam province, is situated in a unique location: bordered by the sea on one side and running along the eastern bank of the Truong Giang River on the other. This is a region rich in cultural and historical traditions, where the people have relied on the sea for their livelihood for generations. After each Lunar New Year, thousands of fishermen here set sail to catch seafood. For these coastal fishermen, venturing out to sea is not only about making a living but also about protecting the sacred sovereignty of the nation's maritime territory.
Vietnam.vn presents to you the image of an old fisherman who has spent his entire life with the sea through the photo series "The Old Fisherman" by author Nguyen Thanh Triet. The old man, clinging to the sea and his boat, has experienced many ups and downs over the years. No one can count how many winds have battered his face, etching wrinkles. No one knows how the mist and salt of the sea have calloused his diligent hands. The author submitted this photo series to
the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest, organized by
the Ministry of Information and Communications .
Sitting on the beach in the blazing summer afternoon sun, the old fishermen of Tam Thanh gaze out at the sea with eyes heavy with worry. The hardships of their profession, enduring the waves and winds, are clearly etched on their wrinkled faces and calloused, dark hands.
For coastal fishermen, boats are their homes, and the sea is their homeland, so every time they set sail, they carry the hope that when they return, the holds of their boats will be full of fish and shrimp.
The fishermen of this coastal village, where they were born and raised, have been making a living and establishing their livelihoods here for hundreds of years. Every day, the people go out to sea to catch seafood using small boats and canoes, gradually building up the prosperous and bustling coastal village it is today.
In 2024,
the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest continued to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website.
https://happy.vietnam.vn is open to all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and above. The competition aims to honor individuals and groups with positive informational products that make practical contributions to promoting a beautiful image of Vietnam to
the world . Through this, it helps people at home, overseas Vietnamese, and international friends access authentic images of Vietnam, its people, its achievements in ensuring human rights, and towards a happy Vietnam. Each competition category (photos and videos) has the following prizes and prize values: – 1 Gold Medal: 70,000,000 VND – 2 Silver Medals: 20,000,000 VND – 3 Bronze Medals: 10,000,000 VND – 10 Consolation Prizes: 5,000,000 VND – 1 Most Voted entry: 5,000,000 VND. Winning authors will be invited by the Organizing Committee to attend the Award Ceremony and Certificate Presentation, broadcast live on Vietnam Television.
