Old photos

(GLO) - One day, I accidentally discovered an old photo album hidden among a pile of papers in my wardrobe. I picked it up, and it felt like I was touching distant memories. Cherished days of the past came flooding back with each photograph.

I gazed at them, my heart filled with emotion as I called out their names... Although time had faded the paint, and many photos had turned yellow, everything in the pictures felt so familiar and dear that it brought tears to my eyes and moved me deeply.

I don't know who bought the album to preserve these priceless memories, nor do I remember who initiated hiring a photographer for important family events back then. All I know for sure is that looking at these old photos, we all feel happy reliving a time long gone.

The very first page of the album was a family photo taken on the first day of the Lunar New Year. My grandparents were still healthy at the time. My mother was holding me in her arms. My father stood beside us, smiling brightly with his eyes sparkling. The old apricot tree in the yard was in full bloom. I counted fifteen people in total, and I was the youngest.

Gently flipping through the pages of the album, I began to summon all my senses to recall the time each photograph was taken. I lingered for a long time on the photo of my youngest aunt's wedding. Back then, I toddled along behind the adults, hiding behind my mother whenever I heard the firecrackers. The wedding procession had to cross the river by boat. Beside the riverbank, a banyan tree provided shade, and several flower-decorated boats were waiting. My youngest aunt embraced my grandmother, weeping reluctantly, unwilling to leave with her husband.

These old photos, seemingly simple and ordinary, actually hold a whole world of memories; they contain both affection, warmth, and hardships. Everyone has memories in their life, whether happy or sad. Memorable moments, if not captured in time, will pass and vanish. That's why preserving love and cherishing beautiful memories through photography has become a habit for many. Especially today, besides professional cameras, smartphones have also become a useful tool for taking pictures, helping people preserve every moment in life. Later, when they look at them, a flood of memories comes alive again. This is the Ca Mau peninsula, photographed in the summer of 2019; this is the Dai Yem waterfall in Moc Chau, taken two years ago. And here's the Chu Dang Ya peak, taken during the wild sunflower festival. Then there are important anniversaries throughout the year, the opening ceremony of the school year...

Even when feeling down, posting a photo on social media can help ease the mood. I remember in my old, worn-out school yearbook, there were photos from a camping trip; everyone looked tanned and skinny. There was also a photo from our final farewell, with everyone's eyes red with tears. Every time we have a class reunion or get together with friends, those photos bring back a flood of nostalgic memories.

Photographs taken at different times are not simply for capturing moments, but also for preserving cherished memories. One day, they will no longer be just old photos lying silently in an album or phone memory, but will become living evidence, evoking nostalgia and longing. Every moment in life, every memory nurtured over time, accompanies us through the stories told by these photographs.
