Remembering his grandmother diligently weaving hammocks, a 9x guy painted 2,000 pictures of heritage across the country

From a deep childhood memory of her grandmother, the last artisan in Ninh Thuan, who sat tirelessly weaving hammocks every day, Le Rin traveled across the country for 10 years, painting more than 2,000 pictures of heritage throughout the region.

The exhibition attracts both young and old people.

10 years and 2,000 heritage paintings nationwide

The exhibition leads viewers in the artist's footsteps traveling through each region of Vietnamese cultural heritage.

Here, each painting is a gateway to rich heritage areas, from the rocky mountains of Ha Giang, Sa Pa to the islands of Ly Son, Ninh Thuan, through the Southwest region...

The watercolor works in the exhibition are distilled from about 2,000 drawings during more than 10 years of traveling from North to South by the artist born in 1990.

Le Rin said he likes to explore culture, travel and paint watercolors. Wherever he goes, he takes pictures and writes down information very meticulously.

Upon returning, he selected and systematized documents according to each locality that impressed him, from architecture, cuisine, craft villages to ethnic communities, before starting to sketch.

From the image of her grandmother, the last artisan in Ninh Thuan, sitting every day weaving hemp hammocks, Le Rin went to draw heritages across the country.

In this exhibition, the "heritage area" that the artist is most interested in is traditional craft villages.

Because "my childhood is deeply imprinted with the image of my grandmother diligently weaving hemp hammocks. She is also one of the last artisans still keeping the profession in Ninh Thuan. Witnessing the decline of traditional craft villages, I wondered and wanted to recreate that beauty, as a way to preserve the heritage for the next generation".

And one of the places that left a deep impression on him was the complex of mausoleum architecture in Hue, especially the sophisticated porcelain mosaic art at King Khai Dinh's tomb.

As someone who has traveled to almost all 63 provinces and cities, Mr. Nguyen Mong Trong (54 years old) said: "Looking at the paintings, I feel like I am returning to the places I have been to. Especially the scenes of Ha Giang with Ma Pi Leng Pass or Nho Que River, the artist painted very realistically, soulfully, making me remember the feeling of seeing them for the first time, overwhelmed but also very familiar."

Previously, artist Le Rin published four illustrated books: Delicious Vietnam (2016), Vietnam along the travelogue, volume 1 (2020) and volume 2 (2022), Tet in three regions (2025).
