According to Bangladesh news agency BSS , Mr. Muhammad Yunus, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, will become the head of the interim government in this South Asian country.
Mr Yunus, 84, is a pioneer in microfinance who has lifted millions out of poverty and is highly respected by the people of Bangladesh.
Affirming his readiness to lead the interim government, he made it clear: "If action is needed in Bangladesh, for my country and for the courage of its people, then I will do it," and called for "free elections."
"We believe in Dr Yunus," a key leader of the Students Against Discrimination movement wrote on Facebook.
President Shahabuddin agreed with the proposals at the conference, said Bangladesh President's press secretary Joynal Abedin. The interim government will be formed after consultations with other political parties.
Also according to BSS , speaking at the meeting, President Shahabuddin affirmed that Bangladesh is going through a deep crisis and to solve the problem, an interim government needs to be formed as soon as possible. He also urged all parties to join hands to solve the crisis.
Earlier in the day, President Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament , a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, paving the way for the formation of an interim government.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Army Public Relations Office announced a major reshuffle in the force.
The US news site Court house news reported that Major General Ziaul Ahsan has been dismissed from his position as Director General of the National Telecommunications Monitoring Center.
Lieutenant General Saiful Alam was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lieutenant General Mojibur Rahman was appointed Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command Amy, while Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim was appointed Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh.
