Spread the good deeds

Traditional medicine is a treatment method that is encouraged to support treatment in parallel with Western medicine. In addition to the development of traditional medicine clinics and humanitarian clinics, there is also the silent participation of people who grow, collect and prepare herbal medicines. This movement is developing strongly in Phu Tan island district with many ways of doing things, only taking the health of the sick as a "measure" for joy.

Examination and treatment with traditional medicine

Mr. Nguyen Van La, Vice Chairman of the Oriental Medicine Association of Phu Hung Commune, said that in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of medical examination and treatment for people, he regularly participates in training courses and seminars organized by the province, actively exchanges expertise with colleagues, researches and collects good medicinal herbs and valuable prescriptions to apply to the examination and treatment of people in and outside the locality.

Over the past 5 years, the activities of the Hung Thoi 2 Hamlet Clinic have organized medical examinations for 161,500 people, dispensed about 2.4 million doses of medicine, performed acupuncture on 35,000 patients; prepared more than 18 tons of medicinal herbs, pills and powders to give to patients to take with the medicine, with an estimated value of 12 billion VND. The association's activities have contributed to reducing the cost of medical examination and treatment for people, along with the examination and treatment activities using Western medicine, which have served the people's medical examination and treatment needs well.

In Phu Thanh commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Tre (73 years old) is called Mr. Ba Tre by the locals. For the past 20 years, Mr. Tre has handed over the farming work to his children, devoting all his attention to charity work, doing everything, both inside and outside the locality. As for the matter of donating medicinal herbs to pharmacies, Mr. Ba Tre is one of the initiators in Phu Tan district, spreading to neighboring districts. The most common is growing periwinkle flowers, followed by medicinal herbs such as perilla, horsetail, scratch grass, jute, turmeric, lemongrass, etc.

There are trips where 300-400 members respond, working for free, contributing money to cover their own meals, assigning specific tasks for a session of planting medicinal herbs or harvesting at the end of the season. Seeing the practical work of the uncles, aunts, etc., people respond by donating land, lending land by season, intercropping in fruit gardens to increase the quantity of necessary medicinal plants, meeting the need to prepare medicinal herbs. While planting and campaigning, each year, the volunteer groups provide over 100 tons of herbs to pharmacies in and outside the province to prepare medicinal herbs.

At the Traditional Medicine Clinic of the Hiep Xuong Commune Oriental Medicine Association, thousands of patients are examined and treated for free each year. The clinic's effectiveness is greatly contributed by the members of the herbal medicine cutting and drying team. More precious is the fact that many people, despite their difficult lives and their old age, still come to work with kindness, enthusiasm and responsibility. Ms. Cao Thi Tuyet (65 years old) said she is very happy because her children support her in doing charity work. Every day, she helps with meals for the team, then cuts herbs... She feels at peace when thinking about the young generation contributing to economic development, and the elderly also have their own way of benefiting the community.

Harvesting and processing medicinal herbs

In the blazing sun of the afternoon, Mr. Nguyen Van Choi (Binh Thanh Dong commune) is still cheerful and active in drying traditional medicine. He is over 70 years old, but for the past 2 years, he has been following his "old friends" to do charity work. Contributing a little bit to society, he receives joy, no longer thinking about anything else. "Staying at home is the end of the day, I feel like time is passing by uselessly. Coming here to join everyone in working together, to encourage each other to live happily and healthily. After a few weeks, half a month, hearing that some uncles and aunts have collected medicine to take and cured their illness, I feel indescribably happy" - Mr. Choi shared.

Witnessing a hard working day of the ladies and gentlemen, we appreciate their hearts and feelings even more. The cutting and drying of medicinal herbs is done in a group, ensuring each person has a job, operating smoothly to process the initial source of medicinal herbs. Most of the members are farmers, some are hired workers, some have free time, arrange their family work well and come here to work voluntarily. The movement of growing and using medicinal herbs is becoming more and more popular in the community, not only contributing to the treatment of patients and medical examination and treatment facilities according to traditional medicine, but also preserving the necessary source of medicinal herbs in the face of scarcity in nature.
