Chau Thanh district held a meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Through two resistance wars, the Party Committee, government and people of Chau Thanh fought steadfastly and achieved many resounding victories. A typical example was the ambush attack on a ship in 1963, in which we killed more than 70 security guards, injured 2, and sank 1 ship; and were awarded the Second Class Liberation Feat Medal. With the victory at Nui Troi station in 1969, Chau Thanh District Team was awarded the First Class Liberation Feat Medal by the Regional Command.

On August 22, 1998, the Party and State conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the People and Armed Forces of Can Dang Commune. The entire district had 17 mothers posthumously conferred the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother. In addition, on December 5, 2007, Colonel Huynh Tri (former Political Commissar of the Military Command of An Giang Province, residing in Chau Thanh District) was conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

Immediately after the complete liberation of the South, the extremely heavy and urgent task of Chau Thanh district was to build the government, overcome the consequences of war and protect the southwestern border. Despite the difficulties, with the spirit of solidarity, unity and solidarity, the Party Committee and the people of Chau Thanh district successfully completed the task. On August 23, 1979, the Government Council signed a decision to separate Chau Thanh and Thoai Son districts. From here, Chau Thanh district entered the process of building its homeland until today, with many outstanding achievements. The economic structure shifted in a positive direction, the production value (GO) at comparable prices in 2010 was over 17,978 billion VND. People's lives were improved, the average income per capita was 72.87 million VND; the poverty rate decreased to 1.82%; political security and social order and safety continued to be maintained...

Chairwoman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan said that the district focuses on promoting the potential and strengths of the locality, strongly implementing administrative reform solutions, developing human resources, training skilled workers, improving the investment environment, and facilitating production and business development. The socio-economic infrastructure in the area is gradually being improved, the cultural, material and spiritual life of the people is being improved, and political security and social order are being maintained.

At the same time, focus on promoting agricultural restructuring, suitable to the conditions of each locality. Encourage farmers to widely apply science and technology in production to improve productivity, quality, and reduce the cost of agricultural products. Many advanced production models have been applied and replicated, such as: "Large fields", converting crops and livestock towards organic, applying high technology, especially in rice, fruit and aquaculture production. The value of agricultural production is constantly increasing, people's lives are gradually becoming more stable.

With the motto "Building new rural areas is a regular and continuous task, with a starting point and no end", the Party Committee, the government and the people of Chau Thanh district join hands, unanimously and actively implement the National Target Program on building new rural areas in association with the political tasks of each locality and unit. Up to now, the district has achieved 9/9 criteria, 36/36 targets of "New rural district"; 100% of communes have met new rural standards; many communes have met advanced and exemplary new rural standards, contributing to changing the face of the countryside.
