September is the time when Apple traditionally launches new iPhone models. The latest leak shows that a store in China knows the exact launch date of this year's new iPhone.

According to CNMO Technology News , the iPhone 16 series will be announced on September 10. This seems reasonable because Apple usually holds iPhone announcement events on Tuesdays. For example, last year, the iPhone 15 series launch event was held on September 12, which also fell on a Tuesday.

The one exception is the iPhone 14 launch event, which is set for Wednesday, but Apple has reason to break with tradition in 2022.

The iPhone 16 is shaping up to be one of Apple's most exciting iPhone releases in years, thanks to Apple's focus on AI features, which seems to be everyone's concern right now.

In terms of hardware, fans can expect a pair of iPhone 16 Pro models with larger screens (iPhone 16 Pro with a 6.3-inch screen, iPhone 16 Pro Max with a 6.9-inch screen). A new dedicated shutter button for taking photos and a new chip manufactured on a faster 3nm process will be available for all new iPhone models this year.

The action button, which was exclusive to last year's iPhone 15 Pro models, will be standard across this year's lineup.

Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature the iPhone 15 Pro Max's 5x Tetraprism optical zoom lens. The Pro models are also likely to get a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

Apart from the iPhone 16 Plus, all other models are said to have significantly increased battery capacity and support faster wired and wireless charging speeds.

While last year’s iPhone lineup only had the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max that technically qualified for Apple’s Intelligence features, this year’s iPhone 16s will all have access to Apple’s AI features, which is seen as Apple’s strategy to make the iPhone 16 series superior to other flagship smartphones in 2024.

Sales open earlier than usual in Korea

According to the Korea Times , Apple is considering launching the iPhone 16 series in Korea earlier than usual due to weak demand in China.

This could mark a significant change for Apple, as South Korea has not been one of the first countries to launch a product since the iPhone 3GS in 2009.

According to sources from the Korea Times , preparations are underway for the iPhone 16 series to be released early in the country.

Historically, despite the ‌iPhone‌'s sizeable market share in South Korea, new models have been released in the country weeks after they've been released in other markets. This is partly due to Apple's strict security policies and South Korea's rigorous certification system.

Despite these challenges, this year, Apple seems to be reconsidering its strategy for the Korean market, given the positive demand and potential there.

Apple’s market share in China fell to 14% in the second quarter of 2024 from 16% a year earlier, according to Canalys. The decline pushed Apple out of the top five smartphone vendors in China, which is believed to be one of the reasons why South Korea is considered one of Apple’s key markets this year.

The iPhone 16 series is expected to be launched by Apple in September with many expected upgrades. In particular, the new AI features on iOS 18 - Apple Intelligence, which was just introduced by Apple at WWDC 2024, will be the focus of attention in Apple's artificial intelligence race with Android competitors, when the latest iOS will be officially released with the iPhone 16 series.
