Thoai Son District (An Giang Province) has achieved advanced new rural area standards.

* Thoai Son District proudly became the first district in An Giang province to achieve the new rural district standard in 2018, one year ahead of schedule. Continuing this joy and pride, the Party Committee, government, and people of Thoai Son District are now stepping up to successfully achieve the advanced new rural district standard in 2023.

To date, the district has 14 out of 14 communes achieving advanced new rural commune status, 2 model new rural communes, and 3 towns achieving civilized urban status.

The commune roads in the area comprise 11 routes with a total length of 42.99 km, and by the end of 2018, 100% of them had been paved. From 2019 to the present, the communes have paid attention to regularly maintaining and repairing the commune road system. At the same time, they have invested in construction to ensure necessary traffic safety features, as well as planting trees along the routes. Currently, the percentage of commune roads maintained annually, ensuring they are bright, green, clean, and beautiful, and have necessary features (signs, directional signs, lighting, speed bumps, trees, etc.) as required.

The area comprises 31 hamlet and inter-hamlet roads with a total length of 118.83 km. To date, the percentage of hamlet and inter-hamlet roads that are asphalted or concreted and maintained annually, with necessary components as prescribed (signs, directional signs, lighting, speed bumps, trees, etc.) and ensuring a bright, green, clean, and beautiful appearance, meeting the technical standards of the Ministry of Transport, across 14 communes is 118.83 km/118.83 km, reaching 100%, an increase of 40.03 km and 36.1% compared to 2018.

The 14 communes have 21 alleyways and lanes with a total length of 19.4 km. To date, these alleyways and lanes have been paved and are clean, green, and beautiful.

Along with the synchronized development of transportation infrastructure, the district has always paid attention to and effectively implemented socio-economic development programs and plans, as well as housing support programs and policies in the district. To date, in the 14 communes, 27,909 out of 31,766 households have solid or semi-solid houses, accounting for 87.86%.

Agricultural production has undergone a strong transformation in crop and livestock structure; the development of small-scale industries, trade, services, and tourism has also progressed gradually; and large enterprises have been attracted to production, employing approximately 10,000 local workers. To date, the average per capita income in the rural areas of the district has reached 73.5 million VND/person/year, and the average production value per hectare of agricultural land has reached 215 million VND/hectare. The poverty rate has gradually decreased annually, currently standing at 1.32%.
