Harris said in an X-rated post that she was looking forward to the September 10 debate after Trump "finally committed." She told reporters after a campaign rally in Detroit that she was open to discussing further debates.
Trump had previously hinted that he might withdraw from the ABC debate, which was scheduled before Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee nearly three weeks ago.
A new Ipsos poll released Thursday shows Harris further widening her lead over Trump with a 42% to 37% margin, two percentage points more than the 37% to 34% seen in a survey at the end of July.
Harris's rapid rise has prompted Trump's team to ramp up their campaign. Trump has been conducting a series of interviews with the media. On Wednesday, he appeared on the morning show "Fox & Friends" and answered questions from the hosts.
By Thursday, he had held a press conference with reporters and affirmed that he had not changed his approach to the race. Trump declared Harris and her running mate Tim Walz to be weak candidates who were falling behind in the polls.
