Talents converge

In the men's group, the reigning champion Nguyen Nhat Long is the leading candidate for the championship. Remember last season, Nhat Long created the most dramatic and intense competition in the history of the tournament, with the heavyweight candidate Nguyen Anh Minh, who was holding the championship trophy at that time. Finally, with his bravery, coolness, determination and accurate shots, Nhat Long won with a score of -4 strokes, better than Anh Minh's score by exactly 1 stroke.

Nhat Long has marked an important milestone of becoming a national champion by officially turning professional. Over the past year, Nhat Long has been training and practicing regularly, as well as competing continuously in domestic and foreign tournaments, quietly. Therefore, fans are certainly eagerly awaiting the performance of the golfer born in 2003 at the 2024 National Golf Championship, VinFast Cup - Hai Phong. In addition to Nhat Long, Vietnam's leading professional golfers such as Truong Chi Quan, Nguyen Huu Quyet, Do Hong Giang, Doan Van Dinh, Dinh Song Hai, Tang Nhon Phu... in the men's category or Ngo Bao Nghi, Nguyen Thao My, Nguyen Thi Van Anh... in the women's category are all present in this year's season.

In addition to veteran and experienced golfers, the 2024 National Golf Championship, VinFast-Hai Phong Cup also attracts the participation of the national golf team. In the women's group, the reigning champion Le Chuc An will compete in the tournament with the goal of defending her title. Chuc An will have to face other outstanding female golfers on the team such as: 2022 national champion - Doan Xuan Khue Minh, Nguyen Viet Gia Han, Anna Le or Le Thi Thanh Thuy.

Meanwhile, the men's table features many faces from the national team such as Lion City Cup 2024 individual gold medalist Ho Anh Huy, 2024 national amateur champion Doan Uy, Tien Phong Golf Championship 2023 champion Nguyen Duc Son, VGA Junior Tour 2024 stage 2 and stage 6 champion Nguyen Tuan Anh or SEA Games 32 men's team silver medalist Nguyen Dang Minh. In total, 23 members from the Vietnam national golf team will participate in the championship race taking place from August 14-17, at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong course.

The race is unpredictable

The most regrettable absence of the tournament belongs to the gold and bronze medalists of the men's individual at the 32nd SEA Games, Le Khanh Hung and Nguyen Anh Minh. The two leading amateur golfers of Vietnam are on a tour in the US, and will participate in the prestigious amateur tournament US Amateur 2024 held at Hazeltine National Golf Club from August 12-18, coinciding with the 2024 National Golf Championship, VinFast Cup - Hai Phong.

Assessing this year's tournament, Mr. Vu Nguyen, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association, said that this year's race will be very balanced and it is difficult to predict who will be crowned. With the absence of Anh Minh and Khanh Hung, and the fact that defending champion Nguyen Nhat Long has turned professional, this year's tournament promises to be a great opportunity for professional golfers to compete and lift the championship trophy, after the last two seasons with victories belonging to young amateur golfers.

“Our golf developed after other countries in the region and currently we only have young amateur athletes who are properly trained and oriented. In recent years, these golfers have grown and surpassed their professional predecessors. However, in the following years, when our young athletes turn professional, Vietnam will follow the general trend of the world, that is, professional golfers are the best in the country and will be the most welcomed golfers,” Mr. Vu Nguyen shared.
