The forum attracted the participation of more than 1,000 delegates, including leaders and senior technology experts from NVIDIA, Meta, IBM, Google, Intel, TSMC, MediaTek, Tokyo Electron, Panasonic, Marvell, etc., along with many businesses from Silicon Valley of the United States, China, Korea, Japan, India, France, Germany, the Netherlands, etc. to discuss development orientations, opportunities and challenges of the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, and propose development orientations for these technology fields for Vietnam.

Affirming position on the global technology map

At the Forum, the world's leading experts made important suggestions to help Vietnam gradually affirm its position on the global technology map, especially in strategic areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

Experts shared at the forum about the great potential that Vietnam currently has in the semiconductor and AI industries.

Mr. Christopher Nguyen, CEO and founder of Aitomatic, shared about “The compatibility of Vietnam’s semiconductor and artificial intelligence industry development trends with global trends”. Thereby analyzing the key factors that help Vietnam take advantage of advanced technology platforms, thereby increasing competitiveness in the international arena, while affirming that technological autonomy is the key to the strong development of Vietnam’s digital economy.

Mr. Michael Kagan, Chief Technology Officer of NVIDIA Corporation and Mr. Suresh Venkatarayalu, Chief Technology Officer of Honeywell Corporation shared about Vietnam's potential to become an AI and semiconductor R&D center, as well as the importance of expanding international cooperation to maximize technological advantages. These shares reflect global trends and are a call to action for Vietnamese enterprises towards digital transformation and innovation.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, affirmed the readiness of Vietnamese enterprises in technology transfer and building an innovation ecosystem.

Speaking at the forum, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam said that the event affirmed Vietnam's efforts to gradually participate in the innovation ecosystem and global value chain of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries - two fields considered the "heart" of modern technology and the foundation for the digital economy. Through this Forum, Vietnam aims to gain a new position in the international arena, open up strategic cooperation opportunities, create a solid foundation for the digital transformation process, grasp and master technology, and achieve the goal of rapid and sustainable development in the coming period.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tam suggested that all partners and entities in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence ecosystem, from the world's leading technology corporations, to research institutes, universities, investment funds and the domestic and foreign business community, will cooperate more closely to go further and make Vietnam an important link in the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) supply chain.

The Ministry of Finance will synthesize the opinions of delegates and experts throughout the event. From there, it will coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to report and propose to the Government and Government leaders key tasks and solutions to promote these two strategic technology industries in the coming time, creating great contributions to help Vietnam achieve double-digit growth in an important development period.

Safe, sustainable

Speaking at the forum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh pointed out that the world and regional situation is changing rapidly, unpredictably and hard to predict. However, the trend of peace, cooperation and development is still the main trend, opportunities and advantages are intertwined with difficulties and challenges. In that context, Vietnam needs to have a comprehensive, global and all-people approach; promote international solidarity, join hands in cooperation and sharing so that the world becomes better and better, and people of each country can live in peace, cooperation and development.

“The spirit of solidarity must have a new mindset, 1 plus 1 must be greater than 2, 2 plus 2 must be greater than 4, 3 plus 3 must be greater than 6, thereby doubling, tripling the strength of each of us; if we want to go fast, we go alone, if we want to go far, we must go together, some things must be fast, some things must be far, but whether we go fast or far, we must go safely and sustainably,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Regarding how to develop the fields of artificial intelligence and semiconductors, the Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam needs to identify institutions as "the bottleneck of bottlenecks", but also "the breakthrough of breakthroughs"; must build open institutions; resolutely cut at least 30% of administrative procedures, reduce compliance costs for people and businesses; strengthen decentralization, decentralization, along with resource allocation, improve enforcement capacity, strengthen inspection and supervision; promote self-reliance, self-reliance, proactiveness, and create creative space for each subject.

Along with that, Vietnam needs to develop strategic infrastructure to serve AI development, semiconductor research and production, including investing in developing transport infrastructure to reduce input costs, logistics costs, and increase the competitiveness of goods; develop information technology infrastructure, telecommunications, digital infrastructure, energy infrastructure, and ensure no power shortage under any circumstances, ensuring wave and electricity infrastructure in remote areas.

Developing an ecosystem for AI, semiconductors, startup ecosystems, and innovation suitable to the country's conditions, circumstances, talents, and strengths of Vietnamese people; promoting the startup movement nationwide, so that everyone, young or old, can start a business that suits their abilities and meets the overall development of the country; building research and development (R&D) centers; developing international and regional financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

The Prime Minister expressed that Vietnam hopes that investors and businesses will contribute to consulting, orienting thinking, methodology, approach, developing visions and goals that are suitable for the domestic and international situation, feasible and effective; helping Vietnam build investment funds, including venture capital funds, develop financial centers; build a mechanism to promote public-private cooperation to mobilize resources from the people and society.
