Ms. May happily shared that this year, ginger is selling at a high price of 2,500 VND/kg. Traders come directly to the farm to buy the produce, saving farmers the trouble of transporting it. Compared to growing rice and corn before, ginger brings in many times more value. Her family will continue to cultivate ginger in the future.
Similarly, the family of Mr. Phan Ton Heng in Lan Nhi Thang commune cultivates nearly 5,000 square meters of ginger. To date, Mr. Heng's family has harvested over 300 bags, yielding more than 20 tons of fresh ginger tubers. After deducting expenses, he earned 40 million VND, contributing to improving his family's living standards.
According to locals, the ginger harvest season begins in September of the lunar calendar and lasts for nearly three months. This is an easy-to-grow plant that is drought-tolerant and does not require significant investment or elaborate care. The sale of ginger is also quite favorable, with traders paying double the price for fresh tubers and ginger powder compared to last year.
In 2023, Lan Nhi Thang commune cultivated ginger in all 8 villages, covering an area of 163 hectares. The selling price of fresh tubers ranged from 2,000 to 2,800 VND/kg, while the price of ginger powder was 24,000 VND/kg.
