On the morning of December 26, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held the 2024 Military-Political Conference for the entire army. President Luong Cuong attended and directed the conference.
General Phan Van Giang , Minister of National Defense chaired the conference. Attending the conference were leaders of central departments, ministries and branches; members of the Central Military Commission; leaders of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, the General Staff, agencies and units under the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the conference has the task of summarizing and evaluating the results of the implementation of military and defense tasks in 2024, at the same time proposing synchronous and practical tasks and solutions, creating strong breakthroughs, and determined to strive to excellently complete military and defense tasks in 2025.
The focus is on the results of strategic consultation on military, national defense, combat readiness, training, education and training, Party building; implementing the 2024 theme "The year of basically completing the adjustment of force organization towards being lean, compact, and strong" and 16 key tasks that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense have identified for the 2020-2025 term.
Next, General Nguyen Tan Cuong , Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, reported on the results of military and defense work in 2024.
The entire army is constantly vigilant, highly combat-ready, firmly grasps and accurately forecasts the situation, promptly advises the Party and State to flexibly and effectively handle situations, avoids being passive or surprised; firmly protects territorial sovereignty and maintains security.
The Ministry of National Defense proactively studies wars and conflicts around the world, proposing many major policies and strategies to meet the immediate and long-term task of protecting the Fatherland.
Strictly manage and control airspace, sea, border, inland and cyberspace. Resolutely, persistently and flexibly fight and expel foreign ships that violate Vietnam's waters and propagate and prevent fishermen from illegally, unreportedly and unregulatedly exploiting seafood.
The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense also strictly implemented the Central Committee's policies and directions on Party building and rectification and regulations on exemplary responsibilities. The proposal to supplement military personnel for the 14th Central Executive Committee was strictly implemented. Inspection and supervision work was actively, proactively, and focusedly carried out; violations were strictly handled, with empathy and reason, without forbidden areas, and education and prevention were enhanced.
International integration and defense diplomacy have been proactively and extensively implemented, achieving many important achievements, contributing to strengthening trust, enhancing the position and international prestige of the country and the Army, and protecting the Fatherland "early and from afar".
The Ministry of National Defense has successfully organized border defense friendship exchanges with China and Laos; the second exchange between Vietnam's coast guard and friends; exchanges of party work, political work and young officers with the armies of other countries; and well organized joint patrols and joint patrols with functional forces of other countries.
The successful organization of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 has affirmed its potential, strength, prestige, and new position, opening up many opportunities for cooperation in developing the defense industry.
Regarding the direction and tasks for 2025, the Ministry of National Defense will continue to improve its capacity to research, forecast, and assess the situation, and advise the Party and State to properly plan military and defense policies and strategies to meet the task of protecting the Fatherland both in the short and long term.
Timely and successfully handle situations, not being passively surprised. Proactively research and develop theoretical thinking, military art, people's war, and successfully respond to all types of war in new conditions.
Focus on improving the overall quality and combat strength of the Army; strictly maintain combat readiness, tightly manage airspace, sea, border, inland and cyberspace.
