On April 29, Permanent Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen signed Official Dispatch No. 2723/UBND-NNTNMT on final settlement of the 24-hectare resettlement area project.
Accordingly, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee agreed not to continue implementing this project. The Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee assigned the Gia Nghia City People's Committee to notify households in the project area and at the same time cancel the land acquisition decision; cancel the decision to approve the compensation, support and resettlement plan for this project according to regulations.
In addition, Gia Nghia City must handle people's petitions and complaints. The city manages and uses land according to the approved planning and land use plan for this area.
Previously, at the end of March 2025, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province proposed and asked for the opinion of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee to agree to stop the project implementation and cancel the land recovery decision, the decision to approve the compensation, support and resettlement plan for the 24ha resettlement area project.
This project has been implemented since 2010. In 2012, Gia Nghia City People's Committee issued a decision to reclaim land (phase 1) of the project with 11.54 hectares of 142 households, costing 26.3 billion VND. But up to now, the project has not been implemented.
The 15-year project has created a run-down, makeshift residential area in the heart of the city. The lives and livelihoods of people in the project area have been severely affected, leading to long-standing complaints.
In 2022 and 2023, Gia Nghia City organized a consultation with local residents in the project area. In both consultations, more than 98% of residents agreed to cancel the project. Dak Nong's departments and branches have also repeatedly proposed to stop implementing this project.
The Standing Committee of Dak Nong Provincial Party Committee has requested the Provincial People's Committee to comprehensively evaluate the 24-hectare resettlement area project. After consulting with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee decided to stop implementing the project.
Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee stated that the implementation of the 24-hectare resettlement project has encountered many problems and shortcomings. Dak Nong Province has directed units to review and draw lessons from 2 groups and 7 individuals.
