In 2006, Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha (Tan Kim commune, Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province) got married, moved to Xuan Lai hamlet as a daughter-in-law and continued her husband's family's cassava trading business.
After many years of trading and researching the market, in recent years, in addition to consuming products for people in Phu Binh district, Ms. Ha's family has also rented land from local people to grow about 10 hectares of yellow-fleshed cassava.

Sharing with PV Dan Viet , Ms. Ha said that yellow-fleshed soft cassava originated from Tien Giang, also known by another name, yellow-fleshed cassava. On the outside, the cassava skin is like regular cassava, but on the inside, it has a light yellow core.
Nowadays, yellow-fleshed cassava is a favorite dish of many people, although it is more expensive than regular cassava because it has a more chewy and fragrant taste. In particular, when enjoying it, yellow-fleshed cassava does not cause a feeling of boredom like other types of cassava.

Ms. Ha's family not only sells raw products, for about a year now due to market demand, Ms. Ha and her husband have also processed soft yellow cassava, packaged it, vacuum-sealed it, and exported it to many markets, which has been favored by many customers.
"Customers like my products because during the processing, in addition to cassava, we also package them with pandan leaves. Or for the pre-boiled yellow-fleshed soft cassava, my family also adds coconut milk depending on the customer's request. Therefore, when boiled, the cassava has a very attractive softness, aroma, richness, and creaminess. People in the cities really like to eat this dish because it is convenient and easy to eat" - Ms. Ha shared.

Because the source of goods sold to the main suppliers is relatively large, she has to hire 3-4 seasonal workers to do the peeling and packaging work, with a salary of about 200,000 VND/person/day. Photo: Kieu Hai
According to Ms. Ha, growing cassava is not too hard but it takes a lot of time. When there is a customer order, we have to work continuously to deliver the goods on time. Currently, her family still mainly works according to customer orders.
Currently, Ms. Ha's family's yellow-fleshed soft cassava product is available in many provinces and cities in the North with an output of about 100 tons sold to the market each year.
Raw cassava costs between 18,000 and 20,000 VND/kg, while processed and packaged cassava costs between 25,000 and 27,000 VND/kg. During peak consumption times, there are days when Ms. Ha’s family sells about 2 tons of various types of cassava to the market.
On average, each year the family sells about 100 tons of cassava of all kinds to the market. "To ensure the planting and harvesting of cassava, the family hires workers with wages ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 VND/person/day," said Ms. Ha.

In addition to maintaining traditional sources of supply, Ms. Ha also actively sells on social networking sites such as Facebook, Zalo, and Tiktok with a relatively large output. However, due to the output not being able to meet demand, there are many sources that her family cannot supply.
In order to facilitate the transportation of cassava to the distributors, in 2014, Ha and her husband bought a truck for transportation. Since then, the cassava consumption has increased day by day.
Currently, in addition to trading cassava, the couple also invested in machinery to produce turmeric starch and tapioca starch, with a relatively large output for sale to the market, mainly retail.

Ms. Do Thi Ha hopes that in the future, she will receive support from units to build a brand for her family's products. Photo: Kieu Hai
Sharing about the long-term development direction, Ms. Ha hopes that in the coming time, all levels of the industry will pay attention to investment and support so that she and her husband can build a brand for their family's products.
"If we receive support and companionship from all levels, my husband and I will establish a cooperative group and then a cooperative, thereby helping to increase product value, increase output to the market, and aim to bring products to the supermarket system, creating more jobs for many local workers," Ms. Ha hopes.
