On the evening of August 13th, the Ministry of Education and Training released information regarding the training and degree granting to Mr. Thich Chan Quang (real name Vuong Tan Viet, born in 1959), which has caused a public uproar recently.
Accordingly, as soon as public opinion stirred up concerns about the high school diplomas and certificates of Mr. Thich Chan Quang, the Ministry of Education and Training requested reports from relevant educational institutions. At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Training reviewed, inspected, verified, and coordinated the verification of information and evidence in a thorough and careful manner, strictly adhering to legal regulations.
Thich Chan Quang's high school equivalency diploma has been circulating on social media.
MR. THICH CHAN QUANG DOES NOT HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.
Regarding the issue of Venerable Thich Chan Quang not having graduated from a supplementary high school, the Ministry of Education and Training has initially determined that the suspicion about the validity of this diploma is well-founded. However, the Ministry still needs to continue coordinating with relevant authorities and security agencies to investigate and clarify other important information.
The Ministry will continue to verify whether this is indeed the diploma of Mr. Thich Chan Quang. If the information on the aforementioned diploma does not match the information on the diploma owned by Mr. Thich Chan Quang, further clarification will be needed through other channels.
Regarding Thich Chan Quang's doctoral studies at Hanoi Law University, the Ministry of Education and Training has inspected and verified the training process. The training process was fundamentally not contrary to legal regulations. Although the records had some shortcomings, these were rectified during the training period.
Regarding the quality of Thich Chan Quang's doctoral dissertation, the Ministry of Education and Training has sent independent reviewers to assess its quality. Based on the assessment results, the Ministry of Education and Training will establish a dissertation review council in accordance with regulations. This process requires additional time to organize and implement.
"The Ministry of Education and Training continues to proactively coordinate with relevant agencies to obtain clear and reliable information before the competent authority makes an official announcement," the document stated.
The issue of under what circumstances diplomas can be revoked or canceled has attracted public attention after the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that the name of Mr. Thich Chan Quang (real name Vuong Tan Viet, born in 1959) was not on the list of candidates and the score sheet for the 1989 high school supplementary education graduation exam of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
At the same time, the name of Thich Chan Quang is not on the list of graduates of the supplementary high school education course on June 6, 1989, issued by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
Not only his high school diploma, but in recent times, Thich Chan Quang has caused a stir in public opinion regarding his academic qualifications. Before earning his doctorate, Thich Chan Quang had a bachelor's degree in English (2001) from the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University); and a bachelor's degree in Law in 2019 from Hanoi Law University (a second degree, part-time study program).
