BIDV was honored in the field of sustainable finance.

The awards recognize BIDV 's pioneering spirit and high level of credibility in terms of its capabilities and reputation in the capital market, having successfully issued VND 2,500 billion in bonds compliant with the green bond principles of the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA), making BIDV the first bank to issue green bonds according to international principles in Vietnam.

BIDV's bond issuance is also the first green bond issuance in Vietnam with an unsecured structure, not subordinated debt, and not requiring payment guarantees, demonstrating a high level of credibility and reputation of the issuer. BIDV's green bond framework has been independently assessed and rated SQS2 (very good) by Moody's International Rating Agency, thereby confirming BIDV's high level of compliance and transparency in bond issuance and post-issuance management, ensuring that the green bond capital is used for the committed purposes.

At the COP 26 conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh committed Vietnam to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. To fulfill this commitment, the Government issued the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. In line with the global and national trend of green development, BIDV recognizes that green bonds will be a necessary and promising channel for capital mobilization in Vietnam, supporting sufficient investment capital for businesses, especially foreign capital. Therefore, BIDV has shown early interest and focus on researching and implementing the issuance of green bonds. BIDV has a clear strategy for developing green banking and green credit, related to the requirement to promote green credit growth and manage environmental and social (ESG) risks in lending activities, and is ready to finance customers operating in low-carbon and climate change-adaptive sectors. Green bond issuance will be an effective tool to enhance the implementation of the above strategy. BIDV expects that the pioneering issuance of green bonds according to international standards will inspire other organizations to join in building a green, thriving, and sustainable future.

BIDV is the leading bond issuer in the market, with a total issuance volume of nearly VND 115,000 billion from 2018 to the present.
