This morning (August 8), on the first day of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station elevated metro line's official commercial operation, thousands of Hanoians lined up to experience it. Notably, many people lined up from 6am after nearly 15 years of waiting.

After nearly 15 years of construction, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line has officially been put into operation and welcomed visitors to experience since August 8.

According to Dan Viet reporters, on the first day of operation, thousands of people lined up from early morning to experience it. The peak was at Nhon, Cau Giay, and National University stations... attracting a large number of people to line up to experience it.

Moving from his house in Thanh Xuan district to the National University station, Mr. Trinh Xuan Tam (Thanh Xuan district) breathlessly shared: "My wife and I lined up from 6am hoping to be the first to experience the most modern railway line in the capital. I feel very excited because after nearly 15 years of waiting, I finally get to experience it."

During the first 15 days of operation, passengers will be able to travel by train for free. After that, the expected price of a regular monthly ticket is 200,000 VND, with a 50% discount for priority tickets for students, workers in industrial zones; buying in groups of 30 or more people costs 140,000 VND. A daily ticket costs 24,000 VND, and can travel the entire route during the day. Tickets at stations along the way cost from 8,000 to 12,000 VND.

Unlike the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway, passengers buying single-trip tickets will be given round, coin-shaped tickets. When passing through the ticket gate, use the ticket to scan the gate, and when arriving at the station, insert it into the ticket machine to open the gate. Tickets are only valid for 20 minutes after purchase. If passengers do not board the train, they must go to the ticket counter to update.

The first passengers were delighted to use their phones to record the moment the first train arrived at the National University station, which is also considered one of the largest and most beautiful stations on the entire route.

At 8:30 a.m. at Cau Giay station, thousands of passengers got on and off the train after finishing the journey from Nhon. It is estimated that the travel time from Nhon station to Cau Giay terminal is about 15 minutes for the 8.5 km journey.

The train cabins were packed with people.

Mr. Viet and his son brought a compact folding bike on the train and said: "My son and I got on the train from Cau Dien station and stopped at Cau Giay station. Then, my son will cycle to An Hoa school on Nguyen Khang street, and I will also go to work nearby. I feel that this public transport is very convenient, fast and avoids traffic jams."

During the 8.5 km journey from Nhon station to Cau Giay station, people will be able to see some famous landmarks in Hanoi such as To Lich river, urban areas and major intersections such as Mai Dich, Cau Giay...

Although crowded and only 2/3 of the Nhon - Hanoi railway line is in operation, everyone is happy after nearly 15 years of waiting.

Although crowded, the air conditioning in the train compartments is very cool, creating comfort for people when experiencing the train ride.

Images of traffic jams, suffocation, inching forward on Xuan Thuy - Cau Giay street and people comfortably walking and moving up escalators at stations during rush hour.

By around 9am, the number of people coming to experience the train was increasing. According to the technical design of the Nhon - Hanoi Station elevated metro line, each train consists of 4 cars, each car can carry 236 passengers, each trip can carry 944 passengers. HMC plans to operate 4-6 trains, with a 6-minute interval between rush hour trains (on average, there are 10 trips/hour/direction to the station to pick up and drop off passengers during rush hour). Thus, the maximum transport capacity of the line is 9,440 passengers/hour/direction.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station railway project is expected to change the urban landscape, completely solving the traffic congestion problem in Hanoi and many other large cities. After the underground section is completed, the entire Metro line will be put into operation, contributing to changing the urban landscape, conveniently connecting areas, and promoting the socio-economic development of the capital.
