From 3am, Ms. Do Thi Thu Dong (55 years old) in Quang Ngai and her daughter took a bus to take her nearly 1-year-old grandchild to Da Nang for a medical examination.
Less hardship
At the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, Ms. Dong was immediately supported by Ms. Doan Thi Hong Van - a staff member of the hospital's social work department - with a stroller. The stroller is in a lying position, suitable for the baby, and both mother and child took the opportunity to lean back on the chair and take a nap while waiting for the examination time.
During the entire process of going through the procedures and going to the clinics, Mrs. Dong pushed her grandchild on a neat cart, while her daughter carried her belongings behind. The child was still fast asleep after the long trip.
Mrs. Dong said that her grandchild was born prematurely, so he often got sick and went to the hospital frequently. Every time he was hospitalized, the stroller was a lifesaver for both mother and child. "The baby had a high fever that wouldn't go down, kept crying, and wouldn't sleep when held in my arms. I put him in the stroller and he slept soundly, and I also took the time to do the paperwork," Mrs. Dong said.
Extend the love trolley circle
When hearing the origin of these strollers, many people could not help but be moved. This is an initiative of the social work department of the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital.
Ms. Tran Cao Thanh Binh, head of the social work department, Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, said that since 2022, while working to receive patients, she saw mothers packing their belongings and waiting to get a number to bring their children in for examination. Some had to hold their children in one hand and carry their belongings in the other, which was very difficult. Since this is the last-line children's hospital in the Central region, every day there are many patients from the provinces coming for examination and treatment, Ms. Binh suddenly thought of bringing the stroller that her child no longer uses up to lend to everyone.
From there, another thought flashed, maybe ask many other mothers who have unused baby strollers. When hearing Ms. Binh share this idea, members of the social work department immediately agreed. They posted calls for donations of strollers on social networks, calling friends... From more than a dozen strollers, now there are dozens of strollers brought back to serve sick children.
"It's only been implemented for about 2 years, but I see that the patients' families are very satisfied. One day, when I went down to the lobby and saw a few strollers lying next to the waiting chairs, the parents were exhausted after a long trip from the countryside and took a nap while their children slept soundly in the stroller. I felt so warm inside," Ms. Binh confided.
Ms. Binh's joy is also the joy of those who volunteered to donate their children's strollers to this meaningful program.
Many of the cars in the program called "Love Strollers" have even more special origins when parents borrowed cars from here when their children were in the hospital, and then when their children grew up, they brought their own cars back to give as gifts. Just like that, the cycle of strollers continues to extend love at this hospital.
