Besides, the completion of land border demarcation also contributes to promoting socio-economic development, especially between border provinces of the two countries.

According to the Minister, since the three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border came into effect and the two countries officially managed the land border according to the legal documents on the border, in general, the situation on the Vietnam-China land border has been basically stable, the border line and border marker system has been maintained; social order and security in the border area have been ensured; the work of opening and upgrading border gates and connecting traffic has been of interest to both sides; friendly exchanges and cooperation in developing the border area have been promoted.

During the period from 2001 to 2008, the two sides carried out demarcation work in the field. As a result, the entire border line of 1,449.566 km was demarcated, with 1,971 markers planted, including 1 marker at the Vietnam-China-Laos border junction, 1,548 main markers and 442 secondary markers. This system of markers has been marked, recorded and described in accordance with the actual terrain, ensuring objectivity, science, clarity, stability and long-term sustainability.

On November 18, 2009, the two governments signed three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border to acknowledge all achievements in demarcation and border marker planting in the field, and establish legal regulations to coordinate effectively and smoothly the work of border management, protection, and management and development of border gates between the two countries.

Emphasizing that in recent times, development cooperation has become the main trend, Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung said that the implementation of border protection and management, promotion of development cooperation and the implementation of legal documents on land borders between the two countries have achieved important results, contributing to protecting peace, stability and effectively handling most incidents arising between the two sides, ensuring national defense, security, social order and safety in the region and the world.

The treaty and three legal documents have created better conditions for the two sides to effectively manage the border on the basis of respecting each other's sovereignty, creating conditions for localities, especially border localities, to expand economic development cooperation and enhance friendly exchanges.

The Head of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission cited that bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and China increased from only 30 million USD in 1991 to 171.9 billion USD by the end of 2023. Vietnam has maintained its position as China's largest trading partner in ASEAN for many years and is currently China's 5th largest partner in the world.

“This demonstrates that a peaceful and stable border will create conditions for trade between the two countries to develop and thus economic relations to develop,” the Head of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission emphasized.
