On social media, Mr. Zelensky wrote: “According to preliminary information, Russian forces used a North Korean missile in this attack - another targeted terrorist attack against Ukraine... Explosives experts are still working to check the exact data related to this type of missile."
In the early morning of August 11, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko and military authorities officials confirmed that Russia had launched an airstrike on the Ukrainian capital. Air defense systems were deployed on the outskirts of Kiev to repel the Russian airstrike.
"Air defense units are operating, air strike warning continues," Mayor Klitschko announced on Telegram .
Serhiy Popko, head of the Kiev military administration, said the Ukrainian capital was under threat from Russian ballistic missiles.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the capital Kiev, the surrounding area and the entire eastern Ukraine are on air strike alert.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on the same day that it had shot down 53 out of 57 Russian attack drones, including four missiles produced by North Korea, in an airstrike last night.
