On the afternoon of August 7, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online about the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that in August 2024, the department will issue a document guiding the preparation for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025.
Basically, students still take 3 subjects: literature, math, foreign language to apply for regular grade 10. Students applying for specialized grade 10 will take an additional specialized subject exam.
"It is expected that in October, the department will announce sample test questions for each subject so that secondary schools can have guidance in teaching students," said Mr. Hieu.
According to Mr. Hieu, 2025 is the first year that students will take the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, the exam will be designed to assess students' abilities. Specifically, the exam will require candidates to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems.
"In fact, the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City has been following this direction for more than 10 years. However, the level of innovation is different each year. By 2025, the 10th grade entrance exam will more clearly demonstrate the direction of assessing students' abilities, in accordance with the 2018 General Education Program," Mr. Hieu affirmed.
Regarding the entrance exam for 10th grade specialized in physics, chemistry, biology, history, and geography, Mr. Hieu informed: "Students will take specialized subjects in natural sciences, history and geography according to the 2018 General Education Program at the secondary school level. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will have specific instructions on this so that teachers and students can prepare early."
It is known that 2025 is also the first year that Ho Chi Minh City will not enroll specialized 10th graders for regular high schools. So, will the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training increase enrollment quotas for Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted? Regarding this issue, Mr. Hieu said: "The Department will calculate and announce later."
Nervous about the 10th grade entrance exam
2025 is the first year that students will take the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also students and teachers across the country are anxiously waiting for official information from the Ministry and Departments of Education and Training.
"This is our first year so we are very worried. We hope that the Ministry and the Departments of Education and Training will issue regulations on the 10th grade entrance exam right from the beginning of the school year so that teachers have time to prepare for students," a middle school principal suggested.
