On August 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, the Vietnam Youth Union of the city and the Vietnam Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City organized a program to summarize the programs and summer volunteer campaigns in 2024. Attending were comrades: Nguyen Lam, Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; Nguyen Ho Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Nguyen Manh Cuong, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for Mass Mobilization.
Speaking at the program, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai praised the city's summer volunteers for demonstrating a spirit of initiative, enthusiasm, creativity and high responsibility, actively contributing to building Ho Chi Minh City with a good quality of life, civilized, modern and affectionate.
According to comrade Nguyen Ho Hai, Ho Chi Minh City youth had 2 months to go to the places they needed to go, implement meaningful projects and tasks, especially those related to digital transformation. Since then, summer volunteer activities have made an important contribution to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City and the country.
Comrade Nguyen Ho Hai hopes that the youth of Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote the spirit of volunteerism, initiative, and breakthroughs in difficult areas and urgent issues of the city today to speed up the implementation of projects and activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. In particular, the youth need to be creative, apply technology, use social networks to communicate, spread, attract young people to contribute, participate and contribute.
The 2024 summer volunteer programs and campaigns took place from June 2 to August 4 with the theme "Year of Youth Volunteers", attracting 611,209 volunteers. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 48 volunteers from Malaysia; 55 volunteers who are Vietnamese youth living abroad; and more than 80 international students and youth from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and the United States living and studying in Ho Chi Minh City.
The campaigns were organized in difficult areas, especially the border areas of 16 provinces in the Central Highlands, South Central Coast, Southeast, Mekong Delta, the front in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thanh An island commune (Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City) and Phu Quy island district (Binh Thuan province).
According to Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Ngo Minh Hai, the youth of the city named after Uncle Ho have been living in the vibrant summer days, wherever they go, the volunteers have received the love and trust of the people and residents of the places they have passed through. The volunteers have joined hands to carry out thousands of meaningful tasks.
Comrade Ngo Minh Hai shared that the 2024 summer volunteer programs and campaigns of Ho Chi Minh City youth have gone well. Continuing the song of youth volunteering, continuing the results that previous generations of soldiers have worked hard to build, continuing to affirm that in addition to the values brought to the community, volunteer activities are also the most effective educational method of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, building a practical working environment for young people to practice and mature.
Comrade Ngo Minh Hai emphasized that the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is an opportunity for the city's youth to continue their volunteer journey with Ho Chi Minh City in construction and development. The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union requested that the youth unions and associations quickly survey and select projects and tasks, carefully prepare resources, promote the policy of "3 connections" and the viewpoint of "3 commons" to jointly contribute to specific projects and tasks.
On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union commended and rewarded outstanding collectives and individuals in organizing volunteer programs and campaigns in the summer of 2024.
Some results of the implementation of the 2024 summer volunteer programs and campaigns: Implementing 714 civilized roads and alleys with the criteria of "Green - clean - beautiful - civilized - safe"; building and repairing 61 houses in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces; renovating and upgrading 93 community activity spaces and points; planting 139,960 trees; connecting and implementing more than 2,800 ideas and initiatives; propagating and training digital skills for more than 9,460 young people; providing career guidance for more than 52,000 young people; introducing jobs to more than 10,950 young people; taking care of more than 132,850 people and children; recruiting 10,510 new union members; 667 outstanding union members who are volunteers were admitted to the Party.
