According to the North Korean state news agency ( KCNA ) reported on August 5, President Kim Jong-un inspected the handover the day before and gave a speech.

The leader declared that his country will raise its nuclear readiness level in the near future to deal with any challenges, stressing that strengthening the military, stockpiling and improving nuclear weapons is the best way to deal with the US.

Referring to the US presidential election to be held in November, Mr. Kim Jong-un said that Pyongyang's preparation for confrontation with Washington even after the world's number one power's government changes on election day on November 5 is a predictable result.

The president of the Northeast Asian nation described the US as a country "that must be dealt with for generations to come" and North Korea needed to strengthen its nuclear forces.

Responding to North Korea's transfer of 250 tactical missile launchers to frontline units, Yonhap news agency said on the same day that Washington "encouraged Pyongyang to stop taking provocative and unproductive steps and return to the negotiating table."
