On August 9, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 2326/QD-BVHTTDL announcing the inclusion of "Folk knowledge of Pho Nam Dinh province" in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
According to the heritage profile, “Folk knowledge of Pho Nam Dinh province” is assessed to fully meet the criteria of national intangible heritage with representativeness, expressing community and local identity; reflecting cultural diversity and human creativity, continuing through many generations; having the ability to recover and exist long-term; being agreed upon by the community, voluntarily nominated and committed to protection.
Nam Dinh is the homeland of pho. This is a popular dish in Vietnamese culinary culture, loved by many people not only domestically but also in many countries around the world.
Over time, pho, along with the folk knowledge that creates this dish, has become the pride of Nam Dinh land and people; affirming the brand value and culinary culture with unique features expressed in all stages of processing, from preparation, selection, and combination of ingredients and food; the method of making typical pho noodles to preparing the broth, completing a delicious bowl of pho that ensures flavor and nutritional quality...

The recognition of "Folk knowledge of Pho Nam Dinh province" as a national intangible cultural heritage is the initial basis for the Government to submit to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for consideration and recognition to be listed on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
From there, propose solutions to preserve and promote the cultural values of the heritage; continue to promote propaganda and promotion activities of the culinary cultural heritage "Pho Nam Dinh"; strengthen State management of the heritage; at the same time, enhance the role and responsibility of authorities at all levels, culinary organizations, associations and the community in preserving and protecting the values of folk knowledge about the brands and unique culinary products of Nam Dinh land and people.
