On the morning of August 3, in Hanoi, after being elected by the Central Committee to hold the highest position of the Party, General Secretary and President To Lam chaired a press conference to inform and answer questions from domestic and international press.

To continue to successfully implement the goals set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the immediate priority is to review and evaluate all targets and tasks set out by the 13th National Party Congress and the results achieved so far, thereby determining specific tasks for each month, each quarter, and each Party Committee must focus on leading the implementation.

General Secretary and President To Lam said: There is only a little over a year left, so agencies must speed up to ensure reaching the finish line and successfully implementing all set targets and goals.

In addition, the Politburo, the Central Executive Committee, the subcommittees on documents, personnel, socio-economics, and party regulations are actively implementing and completing tasks, preparing for party congresses at all levels towards the 14th congress.

We must prepare a good personnel plan, select and arrange cadres who are virtuous and talented, devoted to the country and the people, dare to think, dare to do, dare to speak, and dare to take responsibility for the common cause. We must ensure that we have a good apparatus and a good cadre team to fulfill the goals and expectations of the people.

Regarding Vietnam's upcoming foreign policy and foreign priorities in the coming time, General Secretary and President To Lam said: The general policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, especially the Resolution of the 13th National Congress, including the foreign policy, remains unchanged.

Vietnam is steadfast and persistent in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.

Vietnam's foreign policy priorities in the coming time include five issues. First of all, maintaining the viewpoint of independence, self-reliance, and national interests above all. Vietnam makes friends with countries around the world because of Vietnam's tradition of "getting rich because of friends", and if we want to develop, we must unite to increase our strength.

Vietnam will continue to promote relations with neighboring countries, major countries, strategic partners, comprehensive partners, traditional friends and other important partners in depth and substance, constantly consolidate political trust, intertwine interests; consolidate a stable and peaceful foreign situation and create the most favorable conditions for national development.

We also increase our contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world, continue to elevate multilateral diplomacy, promote our role as an active and responsible member in the international community; effectively implement new-age diplomacy on the basis of the Vietnamese character of "being unchanging, responding to all changes", "being peaceful and kind", "using benevolence to replace violence".

Besides, we also promote the role of foreign affairs to the fullest extent, mobilize the greatest strength of the times to contribute to firmly protecting the Fatherland early and from afar, successfully implementing the renovation policy, the two strategic goals of 100 years under the leadership of the Party and 100 years of the founding of the country.

Modern diplomacy will be built, closely combining Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people's diplomacy, in which Party diplomacy plays a guiding and guiding role; people's diplomacy firmly consolidates the foundation of public opinion.
