Based on the progress in the cooperation between the two countries in recent times, General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believe that with the leadership and support of President Donald Trump, the Vietnam - US relationship will continue to develop steadily on the basis of the principle of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty and political institutions, for peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world, especially on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1995 - 2025) and 2 years of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership .
On the same day, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also sent a congratulatory letter to Vice President James David Vance.

In a phone call in mid-November 2024 after Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, General Secretary To Lam discussed with President-elect Donald Trump the positive results of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent times. Vietnam is ready to promote the stable and long-term development of bilateral relations for the benefit of the people of both countries, for peace, cooperation and sustainable development of the region and the world.
General Secretary To Lam also discussed with President-elect Donald Trump a number of major directions to strengthen economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries in areas where both sides have strengths and needs.
Mr. Donald Trump also expressed his joy at the good development of the relationship between the two countries, affirmed the importance of the relationship with Vietnam and Vietnam-US economic cooperation, and mentioned a number of areas of economic and trade cooperation that the US is interested in and wishes to promote.
President Donald Trump believes that the friendly relationship between the two countries will continue to develop. As US President, Mr. Trump visited Vietnam twice in 2017 and 2019. In 2017, Mr. Donald Trump attended the APEC conference in Da Nang and paid a state visit to Vietnam. In February 2019, he went to Hanoi to attend the US-North Korea summit.
