In just 2 days (August 17), the 'Golden Season of May Village' festival will officially open at May Village Fansipan, opening up a vibrant and colorful cultural space for the Sa Pa highlands, while creating a particularly interesting experience destination on the occasion of National Day September 2.
The "Golden Season of May Village" Festival at Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist area is a special event, recreating the traditional rituals and activities of Lao Cai ethnic groups during the golden harvest season.

The small and pretty May Village hidden at the foot of Fansipan Mountain at the cable car station area has become a gathering place for the ethnic groups of Sa Pa H'Mong, Dien Bien H'Mong, Xa Pho, Tay, Giay, Red Dao, Thai and Ha Nhi, together enjoying the ripe rice season, bringing visitors the most unique and indigenous cultural experiences of the golden harvest festival.

A unique festival every week

Until the end of September 1, May village will be filled with the golden color of ripe rice, creating a beautiful scene with fragrant straw, corn and rice and the golden color of abundance. In particular, every weekend, a special festival of the ethnic groups living here will be held, giving visitors the experience of traditional rituals, local cultural activities and extremely diverse Northwest folk games.

Ban May is filled with the abundant yellow color of fragrant corn and rice.

Specifically, on August 17 and 18, "Golden Season of May Village" will open with the Kho Gia Gia Festival - the largest and oldest harvest festival of the Black Ha Nhi people. Held before the harvest season, this festival prays for the gods to bless a bountiful harvest. This is a rare opportunity for visitors to witness the solemn worship ceremony, performed by the Black Ha Nhi people themselves, showing their respect to the gods of agriculture, forest, water, land and love.

Visitors will witness the solemn ritual of worship at the Kho Gia Gia Festival.

On the weekend of August 24-25, the Then Kin Pang Festival will continue the "Golden Season of May Village". According to the Thai people, "then" means "fairy" or "heavenly person", "kin" means to eat or celebrate, and "pang" means festival or people attending the festival. Then Kin Pang is a ritual to celebrate adopted children, performed by Then masters to pray to the gods for favorable weather and a prosperous life. With Then Kin Pang, visitors will be especially impressed with the spiritual ritual performed, harmoniously combining music, dance and acting, using traditional instruments such as the Tinh lute, Xoc music, drums, gongs and cymbals. Then singing, Mang singing and Xao Xen singing all contribute to creating a unique cultural space of the White Thai people. In addition to praying for a bountiful harvest, the Then Kin Pang festival is also of interest to visitors because it is an opportunity for couples to express their feelings through cheerful songs and dances. The cuisine of the Thai people is also very unique, promising to bring wonderful experiences. If Kho Gia Gia and Then Kin Pang are recognized as national intangible cultural heritages, the New Rice Festival has a special meaning for ethnic minorities in May village. On the occasion of the National Day holiday of September 2, on August 31 and September 1, visitors will experience an "early Tet". Ethnic groups in May village such as Xa Pho, Tay, Giay, Dao... go to the fields early in the morning, welcoming the spirit of new rice home, bringing back the fruits of labor and offerings, solemnly offering them to the gods and ancestors on the occasion of the New Rice Festival.

In the space of stilt houses and stone walls of Ban May, ethnic minorities from the Northwest highlands gather. Although they differ in customs and lifestyles, they all have one thing in common: the desire for peace and a prosperous life for the locals.

Ban May is not only a destination for sightseeing but also a place to participate in unique cultural activities. During the month-long festival, every corner of the village will be filled with interesting activities such as pounding rice cakes, making green rice flakes, and blowing five-color sticky rice…

Visitors can experience the golden harvest season with the locals and enjoy dishes made by their own hands, in the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.

Or you can also participate in the Northwest folk games such as stick pushing, one-rope bridge and swing with the locals and tourists from all over, to immerse yourself in the life of the locals, and understand why the people here love their village so much.

Besides, just a 5-minute walk from May village, visitors will reach Fansipan cable car station and continue their journey to explore the roof of Indochina.

Autumn is the second most beautiful time of the year in Sa Pa.

What could be more impressive than the view on the Fansipan cable car gliding through Muong Hoa valley, admiring the majestic Hoang Lien Son range and enjoying the masterpiece of terraced fields in the golden ripe rice season stretching to the horizon.

The road to the top of Fansipan this season is filled with the brilliant orange-red color of the carpet of Don Thoc flowers, along with the flower flute dances and the rhythmic Dao drum beats of the Don Thoc Flower Festival 2024.

If lucky, visitors will be able to admire the enchanting sea of white clouds floating at an altitude of 3,142 m. In particular, when coming to Fansipan on the occasion of September 2nd, visitors cannot miss the flag-raising ceremony at the highest flagpole in the country, where the red flag with a yellow star flutters in the wind, stirring up pride in the Vietnamese people.

The enchanting sea of white clouds creates a surreal scene that can only be found on the sacred peak of Fansipan.

After exploring, visitors should return to May village in the evening to enjoy the culinary service right at the village at a very reasonable cost, only from 250,000 VND for children and 300,000 VND for adults. Enjoying hot, delicious specialties of the ripe rice season, prepared by the ethnic people, in the cool autumn weather is an experience that could not be more pleasant and pure Sa Pa.

Sa Pa cuisine is also a special attraction for tourists from all over the world.

The "Golden Season of May Village" Festival is not only an opportunity for local people to honor traditional cultural values, but also an opportunity for tourists to explore and learn more about the life, customs, and cuisine of ethnic minorities in the highlands. This is truly a wonderful experience in August, especially during the September 2nd holiday, bringing deep impressions of a Sa Pa land rich in cultural identity and majestic nature.
