On March 13, 1960, Uncle Ho visited the Viet Bac Inter-Zone Hospital (after several name changes, now Thai Nguyen Central Hospital). He taught: You need to love and care for the sick like your own brothers and sisters, seeing their pain as your own pain.

Following Uncle Ho's teachings, over the years, the team of cadres, doctors and medical staff of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital have been persistent, constantly studying, researching, and striving to master science and technology to examine and treat people's illnesses better and better.

The hospital has become one of the 15 organ transplant centers nationwide; performing many specialized and difficult techniques such as closed heart surgery, open heart surgery, vascular anastomosis surgery, lung tumor resection, mediastinal tumor resection, pancreaticoduodenectomy, application of robotic arms in spinal surgery, brain tumor surgery, knee and hip replacement surgery with advanced, modern, minimally invasive methods, and quick recovery.

In 2023 and 2024 alone, the Hospital will perform many new and specialized techniques such as: Autologous stem cell transplantation for patients with multiple myeloma; endoscopic surgery to remove a kidney from a living donor for transplantation to patients; IVF; endoscopic mucosal dissection (ESD); endoscopic surgery for thyroid tumors through the mouth; treatment of disc herniation by endoscopic spine surgery...

In 2024 alone, the Hospital will deploy 203 new technical services and has proposed health insurance payment for 128 new technical services for patients.

The coordination of specialties in emergency, consultation, surgery, and treatment for patients has been actively promoted, affirming the high and uniform professional level of the hospital's medical staff, helping many patients escape from danger and recover from illness such as: Reattaching the hand severed by a machine for an 18-month-old patient; saving the life of a patient with multiple stab wounds to the heart, 3 times of circulatory arrest; saving the life of a 4-year-old girl with a ruptured liver due to a traffic accident; coronary artery stent surgery for a 101-year-old woman; hip replacement for a 108-year-old patient...

Up to now, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital has 58 departments, rooms, and centers with more than 1,450 officers, doctors, medical staff, and workers, of which more than 70% are Associate Professors, Doctors, Level II Specialists, Masters, and Level I Specialists, with a scale of more than 2,000 beds. It is the only medical facility in Thai Nguyen province and the Northern Midlands and Mountains region that is classified as specialized.

To meet the increasing demand for health care, the Hospital has put into operation specialized clinics, applied biological products in treatment, invested in modern machinery and equipment systems, and implemented many solutions to ensure adequate supply of medicines, medical supplies and equipment, without interruption or impact on the quality of medical examination and treatment in any situation.

The hospital strongly applies digital transformation to management and professional activities, implements cashless payments and electronic medical records; minimizes administrative procedures so that people do not have to wait long when coming for examination; the average treatment time in 2024 is reduced from 7.8 days to 7 days.

The hospital has effectively carried out medical examination, treatment, disease prevention and rehabilitation for patients in the northern mountainous provinces at the highest level; actively participated in staff training, scientific research, line guidance and established cooperative relationships, exchanged experiences in medical examination, treatment, scientific research and staff training with foreign countries.

In 2024 alone, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital worked, held seminars, exchanged expertise, trained human resources, and conducted scientific research with 15 delegations from countries and territories: the US, Japan, Canada, Thailand, Korea, China, Indonesia, Russia, Taiwan (China); successfully organized many international conferences. The Asian Health Capacity Association selected Thai Nguyen Central Hospital as the coordinating unit to organize international conferences in 2026.

With achievements in the cause of caring for and protecting people's health, in 2020, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital was awarded the title of Labor Hero in the renovation period by the Party and State; in recent years, it has been awarded the Third-class Independence Medal, Second-class Independence Medal; 2 Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, and 15 consecutive years of achieving the title of excellent labor collective.
