Becoming the valedictorian, Nguyen Khoi had to go through a difficult journey. The most stressful period for Khoi was at the end of year 4, when he won an internship at Deloitte - one of the 4 largest auditing companies in the world.
Nguyen Dinh Nguyen Khoi (2002, Ninh Binh) is a student majoring in High-Quality Auditing, who has just graduated as valedictorian of the Institute for Advanced and High-Quality Training and POHE, National Economics University with a GPA of 3.98/4.0. At the graduation ceremony, in front of teachers and friends, Nguyen Khoi said that being valedictorian is an honor for him, but he never considers being valedictorian as something better than others. “Society needs more than the two words ‘good at studying’ and there are countless people out there who are better than me. Being modest, not complacent, and always ready to acquire knowledge are things I remind myself of every day,” Khoi said.

As a former English major student of Luong Van Thuy High School for the Gifted (Ninh Binh), Khoi was admitted to the Investment Economics major of the National Economics University based on the admission criteria of students from specialized schools. However, this was not the major that the male student loved. Realizing that he was capable of handling pressure and working independently, Khoi always wanted to study Auditing but then failed to get into this major. After learning that students entering the school would have the opportunity to take exams for high-quality classes, Khoi decided to try his hand. This time, the male student passed the exam for the High-quality Auditing major as he wished. When entering university, Nguyen Khoi always considered the words of some seniors as a guideline, that "if you go to university and maintain the same study intensity and determination as in high school, you will have the opportunity to graduate with honors". Therefore, right from the first year, Khoi maintained a serious attitude towards studying. “I think that being proactive and disciplined is very important, especially in studying. Thanks to that, I can completely achieve the goals I set. On the other hand, because the amount of knowledge in the program is quite thick but the time in class is limited, teachers cannot teach everything. If you do not actively research and read more documents, students will not have a solid grasp of the knowledge,” Khoi said. Despite such determination, in the first semester, Khoi still encountered the “common problem” of first-year students in general subjects, such as Macroeconomics. “The first few sessions, I did not understand anything. My friends around me were all complaining about this subject. Not knowing who to ask, I decided to search online to see if there were any extra classes. Introduced by a friend, I attended about 7-8 extra classes and gradually understood the nature of the problem,” Khoi said. Khoi believes that taking extra classes is not bad if it comes from a legitimate need to study to gain knowledge. When classroom learning is not enough for difficult subjects, taking extra classes will help students understand the subject more thoroughly.

In addition, after each class, Khoi often spends time re-reading lecture slides, taking notes of knowledge that needs to be remembered, and doing exercises in the textbook. The male student also has a group of friends who regularly support and share study materials with each other before each exam. Group study, according to Khoi, is very effective, because if you search alone, it will be difficult to find such a rich source of materials. Besides, to achieve good results in each subject, Khoi believes that students must always make every effort, whether it is attendance, mid-term or final. "During class, I often raise my hand to the board to correct or answer questions. Thanks to that, the lecturer will also add to the component points, raising the total score." Always aware of the importance of studying and making it a top priority, thanks to that, in 8 semesters, Nguyen Khoi has won the school's incentive scholarship. In addition to studying, Khoi actively participates in school activities. Admitted to the Party in high school, Khoi was elected as the Secretary of the Youth Union in his first year of university. In his third year, he took on the position of Secretary of the Student Party Cell, then a member of the Standing Committee of the Youth Union of the school. Holding many roles at the same time, the most stressful period for Khoi was at the end of his fourth year, when he had just passed the rigorous exams and won an internship at Deloitte - one of the four largest auditing firms in the world. Although he was an intern, during his four months at Deloitte, Khoi faced pressure from the huge workload. At first, the male student was also "disillusioned" because he did not know where to start and how to do it. In addition to asking for guidance and support from his colleagues, Khoi re-read documents related to clients from previous years to see how to do it. Khoi has encountered many problems because of his lack of experience or because he asked customers too general questions, but thanks to that, the male student feels more mature, confident in communicating and understanding the profession better. "Great pressure also makes me mature faster. Taking action in practice helps me understand what I need to do and learn more, because just learning theory alone will not do it." The new valedictorian of the National Economics University also believes that studying and working are two completely different things. No matter what achievements you have in school, when you step out into the labor market, everyone will have to start over. Currently, Nguyen Khoi still wants to try his hand at a job related to his major, working in the internal control department of a company in Hanoi. However, the 10X still wants to continue "applying" for a master's scholarship in European countries to serve his future work.Vietnamnet.vn
