Information spread
This information is cited from a press response from a rating agency.
The information has spread, affecting fishing and fish trading in the Ba Be Lake area and the system of restaurants and homestays around the lake, which all have Ba Be Lake fish specialties to introduce to tourists.
This information has caused confusion among consumers because for a long time, fish in Ba Be Lake has always been considered fresh and clean because this lake is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in Vietnam.
According to Director of the Center for Disease Control of Bac Kan province Nguyen Tien Ton, after receiving the request for clarification from Nhan Dan Newspaper and the direction of the Director of the Department of Health, the unit contacted the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology and Entomology.
Verification information
As a result of the discussion, the Institute confirmed that the information that 70% of fish in Ba Be Lake were infected with small liver flukes was incorrect. This was a mistake in the test results of another freshwater lake, not Ba Be Lake.
According to Director of Bac Kan Department of Health Tac Van Nam, the testing implementation of central units will usually be coordinated with local health agencies. Therefore, if there is a testing program like the above, local health agencies will be aware and will have official information about the results.
It is known that Ba Be Lake is strictly protected by Bac Kan province and fishing is restricted. The province also strictly prohibits all forms of destructive fishing on the lake, such as: electric shock, explosives, etc.
Statistics show that the lake has 49 species of freshwater fish, many of which are very rare, such as: green dam, glass carp, anh vu, catfish...
